Thrilled to have participated in the inaugural Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves 2024 edition! It was so invigorating that I’m confident there will be other editions (hopefully soon!). ➡️ Uncertainty was on everyone's lips, and it’s definitely something we will incorporate into our MRMR workflow. An other highlight for me was the strong female representation among both attendees and speakers— it was very encouraging! 🤩 It was a fantastic gathering of resource geologists, mining engineers, metallurgists, and environmental specialists all dedicated to enhancing our practices in MRMR. So many valuable discussions! See you all next time!

The concluding session of the Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves Conference, dedicated to Regulations and Finance, commenced with a keynote address by Elian Terner, Managing Director and Head of Global Mining & Metals Investment Banking Group, National Bank of Canada. Elian highlighted the potential benefits of industry consolidation, including increased liquidity and the attraction of larger investment firms. He also explored the ESG implications of gold mining, questioning the necessity of extracting the metal and possible future alternative, man-made methods of achieving similar outcomes. Mining equities have been a top performer and garnered significant EFT inflows. The Mineral Processing and Geometallurgy panel from Thursday afternoon at Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves took a step back to basics - look at why we’re collecting the data. Allan Armitage  emphasized the need to consider the broader applications of collected data beyond traditional resource models. He stressed the importance of identifying multiple use cases to justify the collection effort. Ronel Kappes reinforced the value of strategic planning, advocating for a 'think first, collect second' approach. David Kaeter highlighted the critical role of communication and interdisciplinary collaboration in ensuring successful data collection and analysis. elisabeth fonseca emphasized the importance of effective planning to avoid redundant work and streamline the process. Session 4 of Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves concluded with a panel on Mine Planning, Supporting Mineral Reserves. Panelists Marcelo Godoy, Roussos Dimitrakopoulos, Donald Doe and Matheus Furtado e Faria, M.Eng. explored the critical role of mine planning in optimizing sustainability and ensuring long-term value for communities. Marcelo emphasized the importance of fixed-cost optimization and the need to carefully evaluate variables such as acid drainage. Roussos advocated for the early integration of communities into long-term planning processes to minimize potential conflicts and maximize societal benefits.
