🐟🔬 Enhancing Fish Quality in Aquaculture! 🔬🐟 👨🎓 Rafael Angelakopoulos, Andreas Tsipourlianos, Themistoklis Giannoulis, Zissis Mamuris and Katerina Moutou from University of Thessaly This research focuses on improving the quality of fish fillets from European seabass and gilthead bream by exploring the genetic basis of post-catch fillet degradation. The team identified specific SNPs linked to enzymes that affect fillet quality and correlated these with enzyme activity through genotyping. By integrating this genetic platform into breeding programs, they aim to extend the shelf life of fish products in a cost-effective manner. This advancement is crucial for tackling the challenges of fish spoilage, ultimately reducing food waste and production costs in the aquaculture industry. Join the effort to enhance fish quality and sustainability in aquaculture! 🌊💚 https://lnkd.in/gQWkpsEY This video is adapted from https://lnkd.in/ggyh5HV5 Animals MDPI #Aquaculture #FishQuality #Sustainability #Genetics #FoodWaste #EuropeanSeabass #GiltheadBream

🐾 Exploring the Pet-Owner Bond with the Cat/Dog–Owner Relationship Scale! 🐶🐱 👨🎓 Giacomo Riggio, Patrizia Piotti, PhD, Silvana Diverio, Carmen Borrelli, Francesco Di Iacovo, Angelo Gazzano, Tiffani Josey Howell, federica pirrone and Chiara Mariti The Cat/Dog–Owner Relationship Scale (C/DORS) is a valuable tool designed to assess the unique dynamics of the pet-owner relationship. While this scale has been widely used for both cat and dog owners, its validity and reliability had not been tested specifically for dogs—until now! Our recent study focused on translating the C/DORS into Italian and evaluating its effectiveness among Italian dog owners. We found that the scale maintains its three-factor structure—Perceived Emotional Closeness (PEC), Pet–Owner Interactions (POI), and Perceived Costs (PC)—with good overall validity and reliability. Interestingly, student dog owners reported stronger emotional bonds and interactions with their pets, while owners of dogs with behavioral issues experienced lower emotional closeness. Additionally, those whose dogs lived outdoors showed reduced interactions. This research highlights the importance of cultural context in pet ownership and the need for tailored assessment tools. Understanding these relationships can help foster better connections between pets and their owners! ❤️ https://lnkd.in/gM-uxZga This entry is adapted from the peer-reviewed paper https://lnkd.in/gXfCQhEE Animals MDPI #PetOwnership #AnimalBehavior #DogOwners #ResearchInsights

Marie Curie Research Fellow. Fish Nutrition, Physiology and Health [VITAMIN & MINERAL Nutrition, Skeletal Health]
🐟 Happy to share our latest article on the interaction between Vitamin D and K in supporting growth and skeletal health in gilthead seabream juveniles! https://lnkd.in/dPvtaeKD Building on our previous research on larvae, this study in juveniles shows that while these micronutrients are needed in small amounts, they have unique impacts at different life stages. This insight could help fine-tune vitamin supplementation for more sustainable feed production in aquaculture.
