With an autonomous and compact drilling robot for boreholes for geothermal probes, we accelerate the heat transition for the net zero goals by reducing the price of the drilling process. The disadvantages of conventional drilling (energy-intensive, expensive, large space needed) are eliminated by integrating the drilling machine directly into the borehole. In particular, construction costs are drastically reduced due to the autonomous and energy-efficient mode of operation. The ZHAW spin-off sells the drilling metre to heat pump installers or drilling companies in a 56 CHF Billion market. Our autonomous drilling robot helps homeowners to switch from grey energy sources to geothermal heating systems. Market entry is planned for 2025. So, the system will be available soon.

Recap of a very busy but even more so successful month at Borobotics GmbH: ✅ First & most important: we had very consistent drilling progress over the last weeks & were able to test our first prototype to its limits. Thank you again Stadtwerk Winterthur for providing us with a test site! 🗝 We are grateful to have received the support of the Swiss Climate Foundation. We still have a long road ahead of us in the development process where such contributions make a real difference. 👏 We won >>venture>> Startup Competition! This was probably the most unexpected news - out of 300+ promising Swiss startups, we came out on top! As part of the prize, we also won a consulting package from McKinsey & Company 😊 🌍 The support from the public recognizes that geothermal energy is an area with huge potential for combating climate change and that is still underfunded. At Borobotics, we are hoping to play our part in advancing this development and making geothermal energy so accessible that it can live up to that promise. ...and so it begins! We kicked off the first batch of #KlimUp startups yesterday. It's truly inspiring to see these dedicated entrepreneurs wholeheartedly committed to driving #decarbonization through their ventures. The nine startups of the first batch: Unbound Potential: Building a new type of flow battery as a key element of the grid of the future. eightinks: Enabling better batteries at low cost and GWh-scale to enable a fully renewables-powered economy. Fabas Foods: Developing innovative protein raw materials for the next generation of plant-based products. EggField: Replacing eggs in the food industry & HORECA with plant-based alternatives. Cotierra (formerly Terra Preta): Biochar production for higher farmer margins and a more sustainable product for consumer. b-char: Designing and deploying Biochar Carbon Removal Factories operated by local partners in tropical countries upwater AG: Offers exhaust air measurement technology, intelligent software and advice on monitoring and reducing emission for wastewater treatment plants. Rematter: Offer a sustainable alternative to traditional concrete floor. Borobotics GmbH: Developing a new type of bore-robot specifically designed for geothermal drilling in tight spaces such as urban areas. Our focus now is twofold: to help these innovative solutions to scale together with the Swiss startup ecosystem, and to identify additional high-potential climate-tech startups to join the mission to get Stadt Zürich to #netzero by 2040.
