We’re supporting cities around the world as they work to improve access to equitable, quality cancer care.

Info

City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) supports cities around the world as they work to improve access to equitable, quality cancer care. It leads a city-based partnership initiative that aims to improve access to quality cancer care in cities around the world by transforming the way stakeholders from the public and private sectors collectively design, plan, and implement cancer solutions. The approach is built on the core principle that cities can drive impact at national level by crafting data-driven solutions with the support of a network of global, regional, and local partners that reflect an understanding of the unique local context. C/Can was launched by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) at the 2017 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. It was established as a standalone Swiss foundation in January 2019.

Facing breast cancer requires strength, resilience, and, as Mary-Gloria Orji shares, a great deal of patience. Her message to fellow patients is clear: be patient, even when the challenges seem overwhelming, or progress seems slow. At C/Can, we’re working to ensure that no one has to rely only on patience. No one has to endure lengthy waits and resource shortages simply because of where they live. We’re committed to strengthening local healthcare systems so that every woman can access the care she needs. 💪 #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #BreastCancer

When it comes to breast cancer, women are often forced to choose between their own health and caring for their families. Many will put family first, every time. But women are the backbone of every family, and healthy women mean healthy families. That’s why the World Health Organization launched the Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI) in 2021, aiming to reduce breast cancer deaths by 2.5% each year—a target that could save 2.5 million lives over 20 years. Together, WHO and C/Can are advancing this vision, starting in selected cities and scaling up to ensure that all women have the tools to prioritise their health. With the GBCI, we’re tackling health inequities that put women at risk, bringing lifesaving breast cancer care to regional and national levels through WHO’s partnerships with Ministries of Health worldwide. Let’s make women’s health a priority, not an option. Because when women thrive, communities thrive. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #BreastCancer

A breast cancer diagnosis can feel like the end of the road - overwhelming not only for the person receiving the news but for their entire family. Despite having a sense that something was wrong, life’s demands and a belief that “it won’t happen to me” delayed Adamma in getting the attention she needed. The journey was daunting, but her family’s determination to seek treatment, even travelling abroad for care, underscores the lengths families and caregivers will go to when access to local care is limited. 🌍 At C/Can, we’re committed to ensuring that every woman has timely access to affordable cancer care, no matter where she lives. 💪 Share Adamma's story and be part of the change today. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #BreastCancer

🌍 There was a whirlwind of activity in September and October as we participated in three major global health events: the World Cancer Congress in Geneva, the UN General Assembly in New York, and the World Health Summit in Berlin. 💡 Across 10 impactful sessions, we addressed unmet needs in women's cancer care, explored innovative digital health solutions, and shared insights on patient navigation, quality indicators, research, and gender equity. Each event strengthened our resolve to close these critical gaps and drive real change. The past months have been an energising journey, and we have connected and discussed new projects with some incredible people along the way. We're fully charged and committed to driving change where it's needed most. 💪 Join us in transforming cancer care for all! ✨ #WCC2024 #UNA79 #WHS2024 #GlobalHealth #CancerCare
