It's Global Recycling Day - but recycling alone can't address our ever-growing demand for natural resources. ♻️ Anders Wijkman and Janez Potocnik of the International Resource Panel (IRP) and Earth4All Transformational Economics Commission argue that it is time to go beyond the paradigm of "reduce, reuse, recycle": we need a wider, systemic shift that addresses our appetite for resources head-on. We must consume less, and meet our needs in more intelligent and efficient ways than through today’s consumption culture. Look back at their op-ed that asks: how much is really enough?⏩https://lnkd.in/dt-dtZub

Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim has been advocating for Indigenous rights and environmental protection since she was a teenager. When we asked her about how we can upgrade our economic system to protect people and the planet, she pointed to the importance of whole-system approaches long championed by Indigenous communities: 💬 “We do not divide climate, biodiversity, land, water, and health – we always tackle it holistically.” She calls for an economic system that works for both people and nature, with greater investment in Indigenous people as active stewards of our planet. Watch the interview to hear her powerful message. #Earth4All #IndigenousWisdom #PlanetaryStewards

Adopting values of sustainability and social justice requires humanity to learn to learn in new ways, as highlighted in “No Limits of Learning,” a report to the Club of Rome published in 1979. We talked to Mirian Vilela, member of The Club of Rome and Executive Director at Earth Charter International about using the principles of The Earth Charter as an instrument for learning and helping to turn conscience into action. Read the interview as part of No Limits to Hope, an initiative launched by The Club of Rome, The Fifth Element, and WEEC Network that aims to inspire educators, learners and citizens to pursue a global shift in learning paradigms to address humanity's most pressing challenges ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d7GeR3mf #NoLimitsToHope #WEEC #ClubOfRome

To find solutions to global challenges, we must embrace diverse viewpoints. The 1979 report to The Club of Rome, "No Limits to Learning," has already recognised the need for broad participation in societal learning and involving everyone in decisions that impact their lives. True participation enables people to explore and question the "black boxes" of knowledge, assess their relevance, and reshape them when necessary. Drawing on these principles, No Limits to Hope, a global initiative by The Club of Rome, The Fifth Element, and WEEC Network, invites submissions on transformative learning paradigms to inspire systemic change.
