Join us from September 6 to 8, at Digital Dreams Festival in University of Lausanne - UNIL. Emerging technologies are opening up new therapeutic prospects. But integrating them into the medical world often remains complex. How can they be used in a way that encourages both patients and healthcare professionals to adopt them? Interest, understanding, trust and emotional impact are essential factors to consider. Design research plays a crucial role in meeting these challenges. Presented for the first time during the festival, our new experimental installation unveils the first results of the national project entitled “Advancing Neurofeedback in Tinnitus”. This project proposes a therapeutic approach to tinnitus based on neurofeedback. Design plays a key role: the aim is to determine which representation of the brain activity associated with this disorder enables patients to better understand and regulate their condition.   More on https://lnkd.in/eR6ZddKS

Appointed SIGGRAPH 2024 Global Diplomat Chair, Nicolas Henchoz, Director of the EPFL+ECAL Lab, will present the new initiative #SIGGRAPHforPeace in Denver, during the world’s largest conference dedicated to computer graphics and interactive techniques. Praeludium: How can immersive sound, digital patterns and colours foster the perception of classical music for a wide audience? The experimental installation Praeludium uses sound, light and emerging technologies to enhance the particularities of a musical recording, such as its timbre or texture. Comprising a 3D sound system with a double ring of loudspeakers, eight luminous steles and a digital music stand, it makes it possible to emphasise musical texture through patterns, timbre through colours associated with emotions, and different groups of instruments through the acoustic device. Developed by the EPFL+ECAL Lab, in collaboration with RTS - Radio Télévision Suisse and the association #Acousmatik in Fribourg, Praeludium involves experienced musicians to offer a new form of mediation with the public. Together with the Swiss National Library, we will present the “Jean Starobinski. Critical Relationships” project at KOOP-LITERA International 2024, in Mersch. Highlighting the work of Jean Starobinski, this digital exhibition brings together literary expertise, museum research, design, engineering and psychology. It explores new principles of curation and digital interaction. On June 20, at 2pm, Stéphanie Cudré-Mauroux, Vice-Director of the Swiss Literary Archives, and Romain Collaud, Art director at EPFL+ECAL Lab, will discuss the specific challenges and learnings involved in the creation of this digital exhibition. Taking us behind the scenes, they will unveil the key elements that made it an awarded exhibition, from the three main axes and the possibility of a visit “à la carte”, to the notions of aura, tangiality and state of flow.
