Gender equality in the digital age
Info
EQUALS is a ground-breaking global initiative delivered by a committed network partnership of businesses, governments, non-profit organizations, foundations, academia, media and individuals around the world working together to bridge the digital gender divide. Why? Because we believe in digital gender equality. By promoting awareness, building political commitment, leveraging resources and knowledge, harnessing the capacities of partners, and supporting real action – EQUALS seeks to achieve digital gender equality and through this, to improve the livelihoods of millions around the world. Around the globe in developing or developed countries, women are being held back from participating in the financial, educational, social and health resources of the digital technology-driven world – both in terms of benefiting from these and contributing to these. The digital gender divide is one of the largest gender divides in our world today – while its negative impact is substantial and felt by all. In families, communities and professional roles, women’s perspectives, skills and experiences bring important value – strengthening societies, building economies, advancing knowledge and ultimately improving livelihoods. It is clear that without women’s participation in digital technology development and access to digital technology resources – we all lose. EQUALS works to reverse the increasing digital gender divide, and to close the gap by 2030 – supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 by empowering women through their use of information and communication technologies. An action plan of data gathering, knowledge sharing and advocacy strengthening drives the EQUALS network partnership. To achieve our goals, partners focus on three core issues: Skills, Leadership and Access. Learn more at: www.EQUALS.org

EQUALS - The Global Partnership for Gender Equality in the Digital Age hat dies direkt geteilt
🌟As #UNGA79 is kicking off we are delighted that GSOA's DG spoke at the #WIDEF 'Leadership Panel: Feminist Approaches to the Digital Economy - Tackling the Gender Digital Divide'🌍♀️ for the launch of Women in the Digital Economy Fund’s report “The time is now”. 📖 https://lnkd.in/e6mMdpbb Isabelle Mauro highlighted the fact that in today's digital landscape, significant disparities still exist between men and women. Globally, men are 21% more likely to access online communications, and in the least developed countries, this gap widens to 52%. Women are also 15% less likely to use mobile internet, resulting in approximately 265 million fewer women online. Additionally, a 13% gender gap in smartphone ownership in low- and middle-income countries further limits women’s digital engagement. Despite these challenges, women are entering critical growth sectors but rates are still low. For instance, they make up only 14% of the cloud computing workforce and 20% in engineering, while representation in #BigData, #AI, #cybersecurity, and programming hovers around 30%. Closing the internet gender gap could unlock an impressive $700 billion in GDP growth over the next five years, underscoring the economic benefits of achieving gender parity in digital access. Key initiatives like the EQUALS - The Global Partnership for Gender Equality in the Digital Age, which GSOA has been part of since 2020, aim to empower women and girls with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in tech. Programs such as Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) and Girls in ICT Day actively encourage young women to pursue careers in #STEM fields. 🛰️Satellite communications are key to help bridge the gender digital divide in particular in rural and remote areas where connectivity would not be otherwise accessible. Together, we can bridge the gender digital divide and create a more inclusive digital economy! 💪✨ #satellite4life #digitalinclusion #digitaltransformation #equalopportunities Sonia Jorge Women in the Digital Economy Fund Isabelle Mauro Natalia V.
