✨ We're thrilled to announce the launch of a workshop on “Strengthening the capacities of education stakeholders in Burkina Faso for safe, supportive, and conducive learning environments” in the heart of Ouagadougou! From October 21st to 25th, the workshop brings together 50 education leaders from across the country. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Education of Burkina Faso, the National Commission of Burkina Faso for UNESCO, and UNESCO-IICBA, with support from Japan - The Government of Japan, this workshop is part of the project: “Creating safe, supportive, and resilient learning environments to safeguard children’s rights to education in times of conflict and crisis in the Sahel, Central, and Eastern Africa.” This initiative spans Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Mali, South Sudan, as well as Chad and Niger, with a shared goal of promoting the safety and well-being of school communities and ensuring the continuity of education in difficult circumstances. Throughout the workshop, participants will: 📌Gain in-depth knowledge about creating Safe Learning Environments and supporting learners' wellbeing. 📌Develop essential skills to design learner-centered activities that integrate safety and well-being into national training programs. 📌Learn to deliver engaging training sessions using participatory, transformative pedagogy. Together, we aim to empower education stakeholders, school leaders, and teachers in creating resilient, safe learning spaces that uphold children's rights to education even in the most challenging times. Today, we had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. Amb. James Waweru, EBS, MBS, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations in Geneva, and Mary Kangethe, Director of Education Programs at the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO. During the meeting, we introduced the Ethics Education Fellowship program, which aims to empower educators and promote values-based education to foster global citizenship, peace, and inclusion. Implemented in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Mauritius, Nepal, and Seychelles, this groundbreaking initiative demonstrated the transformative power of ethics education and its contribution to learning to live together. We had a fruitful discussion on the importance of collaboration within the framework of the UN Human Rights Council Resolution on Quality Education for Peace and Tolerance for Every Child. 🌍 Ethics Education Fellowship Partners Meeting | October 14-16, 2024 | Geneva, Switzerland This week, we hosted the Ethics Education Fellowship Partners Meeting in Geneva, bringing together the fellowship program partners: GUERRAND HERMES FOUNDATION FOR PEACE, The Higher Committee of Human Fraternity International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office, UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, and the National Commissions for UNESCO from participating countries. Over three productive days, we focused on the second phase of the fellowship program. During the discussions, we reflected on the achievements of the first phase of the program, in which 30 fellows were trained as trainers, 324 teachers were equipped to facilitate ethics education programs and over 8,034 children were reached across Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Mauritius, Nepal, and Seychelles. The second phase will focus on scaling these efforts, deepening our collaboration, and strengthening advocacy and resource mobilization. We also participated in #GenevaPeaceWeek, leading a workshop on addressing discrimination and xenophobia in schools through ethics education. This was an inspiring moment for all involved, as we explored new ways to contribute to peacebuilding and social cohesion. We are excited about the way forward! We are gearing up for the Global Ministerial Conference on ending VAC in Colombia, a historic opportunity to #EndViolence against children.

Yesterday, we carried out an exciting hybrid workshop on ethics education to tackle discrimination and xenophobia in schools at #genevapeaceweek2024 We kicked off the session with an engaging activity called "Diminishing Islands," introducing the concept of conflict transformation and non-violent solutions. The dynamics of the game encouraged both online and in-person participants to reflect on the root causes of conflict. Following this, speakers shared insights on ethics education and its transformative pedagogy. They highlighted the success stories from Indonesia and Kenya, where the Ethics Education Fellowship program has helped address prejudices and divides in schools. The workshop ended with an enriching dialogue between the participants and the panelists. A big thank you to our speakers for sharing their time and knowledge, and to all the participants for their enthusiasm and interest in our work.
