Today in Brussels, Givaudan CEO Gilles Andrier attended the annual meeting of The Value of Beauty, an alliance demonstrating how beauty, personal care and fragrance drive positive change in Europe. Alongside founding members Beiersdorf, L'Oréal, IFF, KIKO MILANO, and Ancorotti Cosmetics S.p.A., 15 CEOs discussed the sector’s key aims and met with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, to highlight Europe’s economic regulations on the cosmetics industry. During the event, visitors will be able to explore our display featuring Active Beauty products, followed by a tribute to the Perfumery School and insights into the company’s latest innovations with a special highlight on ‘Guardians of Memories’ our video game dedicated to fragrance creation. Listen to Gustavo Paulo, a Perfumer trainee at Givaudan's Perfumery School, tell us more about a recent trip to southern Italy, alongside other trainees. A wealth of learning ensued, around two essential perfumery ingredients: bergamot and mandarin, with opportunities to smell sharp ‘green' and juicy ‘yellow' mandarin oils with Givaudan Perfumer expert in natural fragrance ingredients, Marypierre Julien. As Marypierre notes, “It was wonderful to watch as trainees discovered the extent to which the extraction method affected the resulting mandarin oil and its scent profile. During our visit in Calabria, students gained manifold insights into the complexities of mandarin cold press and distillation processes, as well as the importance of a sustainable supply chain." To protect biodiversity while ensuring a stable supply, our agronomy team launched "Rhodiogo"—a long-term program to domesticate and cultivate Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea), a plant from the Altai mountains increasingly threatened by overharvesting and habitat loss. The team then established over the years a broad network of more than a dozen partners including nurseries, technical institutes, as well as producers to master its cultivation. Now, we are looking ahead to a key milestone: our first homemade extract from cultivated Rhodiola rosea roots to supplement our wild sourcing. As part of our broader commitment to sourcing 100% of our raw materials and services in a way that protects people and the environment by 2030, Givaudan actively works to understand and mitigate risks in wild-harvested supply chains.
