🤝 As 2025 approaches, we're preparing to implement our Post-2025 Strategy, which is all about #EarthIntelligenceForAll. 🤔 But what does Earth Intelligence for All really mean -- and why is it needed now? 🔄 #EarthIntelligence combines Earth and social sciences with economic data to provide insights for understanding and addressing planetary crises. 👍 Together, we realise the full potential of #EarthObservations by making data accessible, informative and relevant to decision-makers. 🌎 The time and resources needed to analyse Earth observation data should never be a barrier to responding to planetary crises. 🌇 Extreme heat is a reality for many urban areas, but developing cost-effective, impactful resilience strategies can be a challenge. Martyn Clark, GEO’s Urban Resilience Coordinator, discussed how GEO can bridge the gap between heat monitoring and decision-making at a recent C40 Cities webinar. The most effective urban heat solutions are tailored to local climate, socioeconomic conditions and urban morphology. With comprehensive heat data and tools, local governments and authorities can be better equipped to save money, time and, most importantly, lives in the fight against extreme heat. "Data must breathe. It's more than just numbers or statistics. It's a living entity that mirrors our world, our experiences and our wisdom," said Kene Chudi Onukwube, co-chair of GEO's #DRR Working Group in Nigeria. ⛓️ As #COP29 fast approaches, the urgency to connect data, funding and action is reaching crunch time. ♥️ In many of the least developed countries, where millions are affected by floods and droughts, Earth observations can save lives by accelerating innovation for realising #EarlyWarnings4All. 🤔 But how do we ensure data reaches those who need it, is understood by those who receive it, and integrates into early warning systems effectively? 🤯 In West Africa, conventional data formats are often inaccessible or hard to interpret, leading to delays in disaster response. But when data is presented in relatable forms, such as through storytelling, visuals, music or traditional dance or other local and indigenous knowledge, it becomes more than mere information – it becomes actionable Earth Intelligence. At Development Education and Advocacy Resources for Africa, Kene works with policymakers to rethink traditional approaches to solutions for flood and drought-affected areas, driven by citizen science. #EarthIntelligenceforAll #opendata #openknowledge 👀 Digital Earth Africa / United Nations ESCAP / Solidaridad West Africa
