🛑 If illiteracy were an illness, it would be deemed a pandemic! 🛑 Nearly one billion people are illiterate, with 90% of children in low-income countries still not being able to read and write a single sentence at the age of 10, despite spending years in school. This heartbreaking reality was the driving force behind setting the course for our family foundation 3 years ago. How can it be that 9 out of 10 children leave school without being able to read and write a single sentence?? We are failing these children. We are failing the parents who send them to school, with hope! Today I wanted to share the work of one brilliant organisation, the Luminos Fund, whose approach to teaching and learning is delivering remarkable literacy results in some of the most challenging settings. Because, unlike a pandemic, literacy can be cured. And see below for Luminos’ solution to how ⬇️ 📚And so we stand beside all those who are working tirelessly in this space, refusing to accept a world where illiteracy continues to steal opportunity from millions of children. #boostingliteracy #literacymatters #readingforall #literacyforall #mc2hfoundation mc2h foundation
Bridging the literacy gap is possible – and here's how Luminos is making it happen! 📚 ⬇️ Despite progress in improving access to schooling, nearly 7 out of 10 children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) cannot read a simple, age-appropriate text by the end of primary school. In our latest blog, our Associate Director of Teaching and Learning, Neha Raheel, explores why education systems in LMICs are falling short—and, more importantly, how we can fix it. At Luminos Fund, we’re proving that with high-quality phonics instruction, every child can learn to read and unlock their full potential. Read it here > https://lnkd.in/enypVvD2
