Enabling permanent CO2 storage – for a bright future of all generations on our planet.
Info
Limiting global warming to safe levels will only be possible by globally deploying carbon removal (CDR) solutions at the scale of billions of tons of CO2. Neustark is a leading provider in this rapidly growing field, having developed a solution to permanently store CO2 from the air in recycled mineral waste such as demolished concrete. Our first solutions have been deployed in Switzerland and Europe and are already leading to a significant removal of CO2 from the atmosphere. We are currently substantially scaling up our operations and impact. By 2030, we aim to remove and store permanently one million tons of CO2 every year. Founded in 2019, neustark AG is based in Berne, Switzerland, and is a team of around 30 people (as per beg 2023). Together, we enable permanent CO2 storage for a bright future of all generations on our planet.

Turning the world's largest waste stream – demolition concrete into a carbon sink. We've now launched our 1st site in the UK, in one of the world's largest urban mines: London. Watch how Aggregate Industries UK, part of the Holcim Group, is using neustark's technology to store biogenic CO2 captured at a site nearby – thus permanently removing it from the atmosphere and creating crucial negative emissions. The carbonated RCA (recycled concrete aggregate) is then used to create more circular building materials. Read more here: https://loom.ly/IH0msZM #CircularConstruction #Decarbonisation #CarbonRemoval

🇪🇺 A call for supporting carbon removals in the next EU mandate 🇪🇺 Together with 44 other organizations, neustark has written to Climate Commissioner-designate Wopke Hoekstra ahead of his confirmation hearing in the European Parliament this Thursday. We urge him to adopt a set of policies to support a sustainable scale-up of #carbonremoval in the next EU mandate. Our key recommendations: 1️⃣ Set separate targets for emissions reductions and carbon removals in the revision of the #Climate Law 2️⃣ Boost #CDR funding to scale up both early- and later-stage technologies 3️⃣ Provide clarity for buyers of CDR in the #GreenClaimsDirective, strengthening the integrity of climate claims 4️⃣ Create stable demand for carbon removals through a #compliance market and long-term policy support Carbon removals are vital for reaching #netzero. With the new European Commission being formed, this is a pivotal moment to ensure carbon removals become a pillar in Europe’s fight against climate change.

BIG NEWS: Neustark enters the UK market! 🇬🇧 We're thrilled to announce that, in partnership with Aggregate Industries UK (part of the Holcim Group), we have officially launched our first carbon removal site in the UK! This is a major milestone as we work towards scaling our #carbonremoval solution globally, hand-in-hand with our partners decarbonizing the construction sector. And it couldn't be more central: located in the one of the world's biggest urban mines – London🏙️ –, the site will permanently remove up to 1,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere each year by turning demolished concrete into a carbon sink. The impact of this is equivalent to over 16,000 tree seedlings 🌱 sequestering carbon for 10 years! With now 20 carbon capture & storage sites in operation and 40 more to be launched soon, we’re incredibly proud of the #climateimpact we create in deploying carbon removal solutions today. None of this would be possible without the dedication and innovation of everyone involved, especially our partners Aggregate Industries UK and Holcim . This is only the beginning... We are committed to expanding our impact across the UK and beyond, ensuring that the construction sector can become a critical player in the fight against climate change. 🌏 Read the full news release here: https://loom.ly/IH0msZM

Last week's World Sustainability Congress by Sustainability Leaders | A World 50 Group Community brought together industry leaders – including our Bernhard Baumgartner – committed to advancing #sustainability across the entire value chain, with a particular focus on tackling scope 3 emissions. ♻️ "You can't manage what you can't measure!" This key call-to-action shared by The HEINEKEN Company highlights the importance of data-driven, measurable action – an essential step when counterbalancing residual #emissions. Schneider Electric also demonstrated how linking financial outcomes directly to sustainability goals can amplify #impact. 📈 Yet, reducing emissions alone won't be enough. We're seeing a promising shift as more companies begin to explore embedding #carbonremoval in their climate strategies to address hard-to-abate emissions. 🌱 Together, let's continue to turn commitments into tangible #climate action! 🌎

Meet Julia Polnau, one of our first team members in Cologne (and an expert in finding great Kölsch food 🍽️). As our #PublicFunding Manager, Julia plays a key role in shaping neustark's strategic path in public funding. She evaluates funding schemes to see how they align with our tech and works closely with internal #stakeholders, like the R&D team, to understand the #technology and explore the best opportunities. 🔦 Her proudest moment (so far 😉)? Submitting her first big funding proposal, knowing she's contributing to neustark's #mission. 📝 Balancing agility, flexibility, and a clear #strategy to deliver high-quality results is both challenging and rewarding, but Julia thrives on new ideas and exciting challenges. Julia is constantly exploring new #opportunities and pushing boundaries, rarely settling for the status quo. 🕵🏼 Always optimistic and pragmatic, she truly enjoys the cross-functional nature of her role. Lucky for us, this is what keeps her energized. As she says, "neustark is growing from a startup to a full-fledged company, always aiming for bigger goals," just like her. 🚀 PS: Julia’s favourite office snacks? Swiss cheese, or a delicious white chocolate bar! 🍫🧀

What is a #carbon budget and why do we need one? 🤔 The carbon budget is the total amount of #CO2 that can be emitted globally and while still giving us a chance of limiting temperature rise within 1.5°C or 2°C to prevent global warming. 🌡️ Global experts, including the IPCC, set this budget based on #climate science, and it serves as a guide to policy. The latest Carbon Gap report highlights 2️⃣ key elements regarding the carbon budget: 💰 Although the budget is presented globally, not all countries have emitted equally. Countries with high historical emissions have already exceeded their fair share. 📈 For these countries, every ton of CO2 emitted is exceeding their budget. Countries with large historical emissions will need #CDR to not only counterbalance any 'residual' emissions that remain by the year of #netzero but also to address all emissions in excess their budget. 🌱 Stay tuned as we be break down further aspects of the paper and explore the future role of #carbonremoval! 📖🕵🏼 For those who want to read the full report written by Robert Höglund and Eli Mitchell-Larson, here's the link 👉🏼 https://loom.ly/tPDmheo

✨🕵🏼 Seeing is believing Why? Carbon removal is often hard to grasp because we're tackling an invisible challenge: capturing CO2, an invisible gas, and making it even more invisible through permanent storage. 🫧 The process behind our technology is highly complex, but we're committed to making it understandable and accessible. With this in mind, CarbonX Climate and an amazing group of people visited us at one of our sites in Zürich! 🚀 Lisa Braune led the tour, explaining how neustark captures and durably stores CO2 right there with our partner Spross. It was a great opportunity to show how we turn climate commitments into tangible action. 🌱 Thanks to Megan Hunold, Sebastien Dewarrat, and everyone who joined us – we had a lot of fun and enjoyed engaging conversations! We look forward to continuing to building these relationships and can’t wait to keep showcasing our technology.
