In der Schweiz gibt es rund 1’400 Gletscher 🏔️🇨🇭 Sie sind auf 11 Kantone verteilt, viele davon klein und sogar namenlos. Würde man das gesamte Eis der Schweizer Gletscher schmelzen, könnte man den Bielersee 40 Mal füllen – eine beeindruckende Menge, die zeigt, wie sehr die Gletscher unsere Landschaft prägen. Der grösste Gletscher in der Schweiz ist der Grosse Aletschgletscher. Sie prägen unsere beeindruckende Bergwelt und sind in der Schweiz die wichtigsten Zeugen des Klimawandels. Seit dem Ende der kleinen Eiszeit um 1850 haben die Schweizer Gletscher bereits mehr als die Hälfte ihres Volumens verloren. Ihr Rückgang ist unübersehbar und ein deutliches Zeichen der Klimakrise. Der Rückgang dieser Gletscher hat weitreichende Folgen – für die Wasserversorgung, umliegenden Ökosysteme und den Bergtourismus. Instabile Felswände und steigende Steinschlaggefahr gefährden die Sicherheit und erschweren den Zugang zu hochgelegenen Gebirgspassagen. Gletscher sind ein Teil unserer Schweizer Identität - sie prägen unsere Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft. Die Gletscher machen es deutlich: Der Klimaschutz ist dringender denn je. 🌍 Der heutige Welttag der Gletscher ist erst der Anfang. Die Vereinten Nationen (UN) haben 2025 offiziell zum Jahr der Gletschererhaltung erklärt. A look at the winter of 2024/25 ❄️ 🇨🇭 9th warmest winter on record in Switzerland: The winter of 2024/25 had an average temperature 1.3°C above the norm. At higher altitudes, it was up to 3°C warmer than usual. Meanwhile, precipitation was well below average, especially in Valais and Graubünden, with only 10-30% of the usual amount. 🌎 In the northern hemisphere, it was the second warmest winter on record (boreal winter: December to February). Globally, we've exceeded the 1.5°C threshold in 19 of the last 20 months - a strong reminder that climate action is not a task for the future, it's urgent now. What does this mean for us as an outdoor community? 🏔️ Conditions in the mountains are changing rapidly. Less snow, more unstable weather patterns, and a shorter winter season all challenge us to rethink our status quo. Less congestion, more adventure - take the train to the mountains 🚆🏔️ Whether skiing, touring or hiking, the car is still the first choice for many people to get to the mountains. But did you know that 50 to 70% of the CO₂ emitted by ski resorts is caused by travel to and from the resort. We're well aware that it's not always possible to use public transport to get to the mountains, but when it is, the train offers a more sustainable alternative to the car. 🚆 Not only does the train have a better carbon footprint, it also offers more community and entertainment on the journey. In the morning, use the time to have a relaxed breakfast with friends or to plan your trip.
