Have you always wanted to try and tackle a real-world problem? Do you wish you could learn more than what you do at the university? Would you like to develop a project from the ground up? 🚀 iGEM and iDEC are #international competitions that allow students to do all of the above – students from all majors and levels welcome ✨. 🧬 In iGEM, students conduct a half-year project in synthetic biology. Each year, more than 400 teams from many of the world’s top universities participate. 💡 Within iDEC, the goal is to address issues using the Nobel Prize-winning directed evolution technique. Last weekend, Student Biolab Zurich’s directed evolution team, Evolution Suisse, presented their project at this year’s International Directed Evolution Competition (iDEC) in Cambridge! 🚀 Over two days, the team shared their results, engaged in discussions, and fielded questions from student peers and leading experts in directed evolution across academia and industry. 💡 Ultimately, they took home awards for Best Presentation, Best New Molecular Evolutionary Machine, and Best Community Building, and earned nominations for three additional categories.
