Recent Hurricanes Helene and Milton in the United States are a stark reminder of the mounting effects of climate change and the important role insurance plays in supporting people, businesses and communities during the climate transition. Our 2024 Climate Conference, kindly hosted by Liberty Mutual Insurance in Boston last week, was a full stock take on the intersection of climate change and insurance. Discussions centred on strengthening prevention and partnership approaches to tackle climate change, as well as abundant opportunities for insurers to contribute to decarbonisation through their investments and insuring climate innovations. Our warm and many thanks to Tim Sweeney, President & CEO of Liberty Mutual Insurance, for sharing his views with Jad Ariss in a keynote interview; Maryam Golnaraghi, Ph.D. and the team from Liberty Mutual for bringing the rich programme to life; and all speakers, facilitators and participants for their time and engagement.

Climate technologies are key to helping industrial sectors like aviation, cement and steel move away from fossil fuels. But they won’t make it to market without insurance. In this article for The Actuary (Society of Actuaries), Maryam Golnaraghi, Ph.D. outlines the insurability challenges presented by climate tech and how, through their risk management expertise and investments, insurers can help to rollout projects at the scale needed for decarbonisation. https://lnkd.in/dsfsJrYa
