A milestone in the ongoing partnership between #IPU and the World Health Organization was reached yesterday as Secretary General Martin Chungong and #WHO's Dr Tedros signed a new MoU, reaffirming the critical role #MPs play in enabling good #health to foster stable and equitable societies. The 5-year memorandum commits both organizations to continue working together to promote, provide, and protect the health and well-being of all people everywhere. The memorandum reinforces critical areas of cooperation, including #UHC, global #healthsecurity, health promotion, and reducing health inequalities. It also supports negotiations on a potential #pandemic agreement, sustainable financing for health, and #climatechange. ipu.org/WHO148

For the first time TorusMedic officially participated in the annual New Year‘s Reception with African Ambassadors organized by Swiss-African Business Circle Fascinating discussions with H.E. Ambassador Sello Moloto from the Permanent Mission of South Africa and Valérie Lemaigre from BCGE about the geopolitical and economic trends for the continent; with Rajen Bhimaraj from Roche about healthcare as a priority sector and with H.E. Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew from the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia regarding regional projects and pan-African reach. It was wonderful to meet Jason T. Shellaby, Matthew Harold, Simone Graven and Dr. Mwiti Makathimo. from Novartis and hear his views about strengthening health systems in Africa and especially his take, which we share, on paradigm transitions in Africa: 1. From a burden of communicable to non communicable diseases in a context of less poverty 2. From sickness-care to healthcare 3.
