Tessone, Chairman of the UZH Blockchain Center, provided an overview of the Blockchain Center’s initiatives. The visiting students also had the opportunity to hear from Alberto Diaz, Deputy Head of Economic Promotion Canton of Zug, who shared insights into the history of Crypto Valley. Paola Valencia, Director of Operations & Strategic Partnerships at HomeofBlockchain.swiss, spoke on why #Switzerland is a key destination for #blockchain innovation. Kamal Youssefi, President of the Board at The Hashgraph Association, delivered a presentation on green #finance and #governance, while Sandro Knöpfel from the Cardano Foundation introduced #Cardano and its real-world use cases. We look forward to further academic collaborations between the UZH Blockchain Center and SJTU. UZH Blockchain Center Weekly Paper Review! This week, we are excited to present a review conducted by Mostafa Chegenizadeh, a doctoral researcher at our centre. The review focuses on the paper titled "Shared Send Mixers Untangling in Bitcoin Clustering Heuristics Adjustment " by Nikolay Larionov, and Yury Yanovich published in proceedings of IEEE ICBC 2024. The paper examines the challenges of clustering #Bitcoin addresses due to anonymization techniques like Shared Send Mixers (#SSM). The authors apply heuristics such as Common Spending (CS) and One-Time Change (OTC) to Bitcoin transactions to identify patterns and assess their impact on grouping addresses. The study shows SSM complicates clustering, but untangling transactions using specific algorithms helps uncover misuses, especially in OTC heuristics. The paper demonstrates how SSM untangling can refine Bitcoin user analysis and suggests future work on adapting the methods to other blockchains. Stay tuned for more research updates! #uzhblockchaincenter #researchreview #blockchainresearch #blockchaincommunity #bitcoin #ethereum #icbc #uzh #zurich

Delighted to welcome Claudio J. Tessone as a speaker at the #TokenForGood Summit! Professor Claudio J. Tessone heads the Blockchain & BDLT group at the University of Zurich (UZH). He studies blockchains as a paradigm of socio-economic complexity, linking microscopic agent behaviour, incentives, and interactions with their large-scale (emergent) properties. The main pillars of the research in his team include consensus mechanisms, cryptoeconomics, and blockchain analytics. He has analysed and warned about centralisation and inequality in token economies for several years, and is currently focusing on DeFi and token-based economies. Further, he is co-founder and Chairman of the UZH Blockchain Center, a top academic initiative world-wide, which nucleates 22 Professors and 50 researchers in an interdisciplinary manner to understand and advance the field. 📅 15 October in Geneva 📍 Musée Ethnographique de Genève 👉 Book your seat: https://buff.ly/3L6ywpy #TokenForGood Summit is a unique opportunity to share, exchange, and debate with scientists, developers, industries, and institutions that explore how decentralized technologies positively and effectively address the challenges of our time. #TechForImpact #blockchain #innovation #Geneva

It was a pleasure to host Daniel Ospina, instigator at RnDAO and co-founder of TogetherCrew, for our Industry Talk during the Fall Session 2024. Daniel delivered an insightful presentation on #DAO throughput, challenges, and evolution. He explored key concepts, including how DAOs V1.0's #tokenholder voting leads to low throughput and efficiency due to voter apathy and lack of accountability. DAO V1.5 improves decision-making but still struggles with delegate apathy and poor accountability. Finally, he discussed DAOs V2.0's swarm #governance, which achieves high throughput and efficiency through internal markets, mini hierarchies, and pluralistic governance. Thanks to DAO Suisse for co-hosting this event and all participants for their valuable contributions. UZH Blockchain Center New Publication alert! We are happy to share the recent publication "Governance and Maintenance for a DAO with Physical Assets - An Agent-based Model" by Florian Spychiger, Parminder Kaur Makode, Lukas Küng and Claudio J. Tessone, was published in the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Omni-layer Intelligent Systems (COINS) proceedings. "This study delves into the concept of #DAO through the lens of #No1s1, an experimental project embodying a #self-sustaining architecture governed autonomously. No1s1 stands out as a physical space that operates independently, #rewarding participants with tokens for performing maintenance tasks crucial for its upkeep. In this contribution, we employ agent-based modelling to simulate interactions between participants and No1s1, exploring the dynamics of the #tokeneconomy, participatory #governance, and the sustainability of such an autonomous entity. By examining the reciprocal maintenance relationship and its impact on No1s1's longevity and wealth, this study sheds light on the potential and challenges of DAO-governed structures."
