The Maison is launching its Certified Pre-Owned Programme offering meticulously inspected and certified watches, serviced accordingly by Vacheron Constantin watchmakers to guarantee the highest standards of quality. Since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin has been creating timepieces destined to live several lives, supported with an extensive range of client services. The Maison is now extending this menu with a Certified Pre-Owned Programme. Each Certified Pre-Owned watch comes with an international warranty of at least two years, a physical document certifying that the watch has been functionally checked and serviced accordingly, a unique blockchain-secured Digital Passport that holds key information such as the technical user guide, and a dedicated seal confirming that the timepiece belongs to the Programme.   This Programme is launched with Watchfinder – a leader in the secondary watch market and a longstanding partner of the Manufacture – with plans to extend to additional authorized retailers and auction houses in the near future.   The timepieces offered through the Certified Pre-Owned Programme embody Vacheron Constantin's quest for excellence since its origins and the promise of longevity perpetuated by the Manufacture for almost 270 years. Honouring the art of restoration at Homo Faber 2024 The art of restoration unites Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre Museum’s art workshops at Homo Faber 2024, an event dedicated to contemporary craftsmanship organised in Venice during the month of September. Artistic partners since 2019, the two institutions strive to promote the transmission of skills and heritage conservation, as highlighted in Venice. 🎬: The restorers from the cabinetmaking workshop at the Louvre Museum are presenting the work they carried out on a mahogany-veneered oak display case with gilded bronze appliqué decoration dating from 1822 and crafted by the famous cabinetmaker Jacob-Desmalter. This creation, along with three other identical display cases, was used to exhibit gems from the royal collections and objects belonging to Marie-Antoinette in the Jewellery Room at the Louvre. Presenting the work of hundreds of international master artisans, rising stars and designers, the 2024 edition of Homo Faber celebrates The Journey of Life through the lens of craft, taking visitors on an immersive journey. To recognise this celebration, the Louvre’s artisans and Vacheron Constantin’s watchmakers set out to honour artistic crafts through a live demonstration and co-creation of a restored Desmalter vitrine, with a focus on the American 1921 Pièce unique from the Maisons private heritage collection. Métiers d’Art - Tribute to traditional symbols - Moonlight Slivers: Grand Feu enameling, engraving and gemsetting    For this "Seawater Cliff" motif, the aim was to achieve a depth effect on a monochrome base. Crafted in 18K white or pink gold depending on the model, the all-in-one-piece dial features hollowed waves, blue enamelled parts and raised diamond-set sections for the mountain area. The gold dial is divided into three parts: (1) The first part, which delineates the sea, is made of deep-blue Grand Feu enamel applied in successive kiln-fired layers, followed by patient engraving.  (2) Devoted to the sea tides running along the mountain range, part two is reserved for the setting. Each sea tide is delicately hand-set with brilliant-cut diamonds, evoking the moon slivers that inspired the name of this piece. (3) Meanwhile, the third part of the dial serves to add relief, with a mountain range lashed by foaming waves. Meticulously engraved with tone-on-tone champlevé enamel inlays to accentuate the depth of the landscape, this portrayal of the mountains is also worked in drypoint to accentuate the perspective effect. Métiers d’Art - Tribute to Traditional Symbols - Eternal Flow: cloisonné enamelling and engraving 🎨   With its colourful aesthetic and respect for traditional Chinese ornamentation, this depiction is a masterpiece of cloisonné enamelling, which was originated in China. The technique is also named Jingtai Blue, which pays tribute to its heyday which is in the era of Emperor Jingtai in the Ming Dynasty. Laying the 220 gold wires used to delineate the enamelling fields forming the "Seawater Cliff" motif along requires more than 50 hours of work to shape the motif. This is followed by the enamelling itself in successive layers according to colour and intensity, with a kiln firing between each operation. It takes no less than 70 hours to achieve the rich tones that are so characteristic of this piece. To highlight this enamelling work, the bezel of the model is entirely hand-engraved with a bat motif. On this timepiece, the engraver has depicted the bat in the form of a frieze composed of successive volutes representing the animal’s characteristic silhouette. A fruitful cultural collaboration The Métiers d'Art - Tribute to Traditional Symbols series offers a journey into the history and culture of China's last two Imperial dynasties, from the 14th to the early 20th centuries. To immerse itself in the distinctive decor of this period, the Maison took a particular interest in the decorative arts and notably in the “Seawater Cliff” motif omnipresent on courtly architectural elements, but also on furniture and porcelain, as well as on imperial clothing and particularly the so-called ‘dragon’ robes.    For this research work, Vacheron Constantin benefited from the advice of Mr. Song, the Former Associate Research Librarian of The Palace Museum, housed in Beijing's Forbidden City. In agreement with this expert in Chinese history and symbolism, studies on the dials of the four Métiers d’Art limited editions focused on the "Seawater Cliff" motif.
