🌟 This week, our CEO and Founder Dr Antonella Santuccione Chadha and our Scientific Lead Dr Mariapaola Barbato, presented our work at the 34th edition of #AlzheimerEuropeConference entitled "New horizons – Innovating for Dementia". Dr Chadha’s keynote presentation focused on the importance of sex and gender variables in Alzheimer's research and our Women's Quota Awareness campaign. Dr Barbato’s presentation discussed the characteristics of the Alzheimer patient journey through a sex and gender lens, as part of a panel session about vulnerable groups. While these presentations were received enthusiastically by the audience, many attendees approached us to share their hope for a greater coverage of these themes in future scientific events – We are happy to see that our message is starting to resonate! 🙌 This year the Alzheimer Europe Conference was co-hosted by Alzheimer Schweiz Suisse Svizzera. We would like to thank Jean Georges, Stefanie Becker, Andreina Ravani, Tara Klassen, Gwladys Guillory and Stefanie Peulen, for giving us the opportunity to share our important vision and message. Thanks also to Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly and Company for sponsoring the research on the patient journey project. 👏 🤝 Support us to further our research by donating today https://lnkd.in/eWsAwhTX or with TWINT:https://lnkd.in/eUvycbTc

An international non-profit organization studying sex and gender determinants to brain and mental health
Info
Women’s Brain Project (WBP) is an international non-profit organization studying sex and gender determinants to brain and mental health. Founded in 2017, the WBP is composed by a group of scientists hailing from various disciplines including medicine, neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, and communication who work together with caregivers, patients and their relatives, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Born as an Association we are now transforming into a Foundation. WBPs goal is to transform the state of medical treatments and drug development through sex and gender factors as a gateway to precision medicine and care. Health begins with human beings, individuals. Men and women are different when it comes to brain and mental disease frequency, severity, symptomatology and even response to treatments. Through our work, we learned that the scientific world and civil society have not sufficiently acknowledged this issue and are instead still operating under the assumption that a one-size-fits-all approach benefits all. WBP advocates for a paradigm shift in global health towards sustainability by considering the specific biological, psychosocial and economic requirements of each patient, regardless of sex or gender. If this mission matters to you, join our efforts - be part of the change! Follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

"She is twice as likely to face depression!" 🙅 ~ Dr. Beatriz C. On this World Mental Health Day, let’s shine a light on the gender disparities in mental health, 4 out 5 people with depression are women. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 280 million people globally suffer from depression, with women being more likely to experience it than men. The impact of depression is profound, and it manifests differently across genders. Research underscores the significant role that sex and gender play in how individuals perceive, confront, and manage depression. By raising awareness and understanding these differences, we can better support those affected and develop more effective, personalized treatment strategies. We, at the Women's Brain Foundation continue to lead the charge in advancing research and advocacy on the critical role of sex and gender differences in mental health diseases. We ask ourselves, how can we break the mental health gender gap? To address this, we are committed to effectively closing this gap by promoting and advocating for gender-sensitive mental health care, recognising that healthcare professionals must account for sex and gender differences when diagnosing and treating depression. Furthermore, we advocate for inclusive policies, as it is a shared responsibility to support mental health initiatives that address the unique challenges faced by diverse gender groups. We actively engage in advancing sex and gender specific research in the field of depression. By doing so, we ensure that all individuals receive the equitable care and respect they deserve. Today, we are launching our awareness campaign for #Depression. Our goal is to raise awareness and ignite change by advocating for better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies tailored to women’s unique mental health challenges. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Cilly Bernardette Schnider, PhD, Carla Grando and the wonderful team at Ogilvy Switzerland for generously crafting this campaign and standing with us in our mission. Join us at our Fourth International Forum on Women’s Brain and Mental Health 2025 in collaboration with Medscape, which aims to educate 40 million of healthcare professionals globally. Let’s continue to support each other, break the stigma, and champion mental health for everyone. 💚 Support us to further our research by donating today https://lnkd.in/eWsAwhTX or with TWINT:https://lnkd.in/eUvycbTc #GenderEquality #WorldMentalHealthDay #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthForAll

An adult fruit fly brain has been mapped as a whole connectome. What is a “connectome”? A three-dimensional map of all brain neurons and the connections between them. Why is this important? Because it is a step further towards larger and larger targets—eventually, perhaps, including the brains of Homo sapiens. Why is this fundamental? To understand and treat #brain disease #brainhealth #mentalhealth #neuroscience
