A team from the Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute - QEERI including Dr. Antonio Sanfilippo, Dr. Mohd Zamri Che Wanik, and Abdullah A. Jabbar has recently completed the installation of a PMU monitoring system at an 11 kV medium voltage distribution network in Education City, Doha, Qatar. The system will measure voltage and current in addition to the dynamics of the electrical components, in real-time up to 50 readings per second. The project is a collaboration between QEERI and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa). The technology was supplied by Zaphiro Technologies SRL, a Swiss-based company in Lausanne, Switzerland. The PMU devices will stream real-time data to a server acting as a phasor data concentrator (PDC). This data will support QEERI’s research in advanced monitoring, protection, and control of the active distribution network, and provide KAHRAMAA with real-time insights into the status of their medium voltage network in Education City. This unique and advanced monitoring system for medium voltage networks will be useful in addressing the challenges of integrating distributed energy resources in the distribution network. #QEERI #HBKU #QF #Qatarfoundation Hamad Bin Khalifa University #PV
