🤩 Last week Schools2030 Kenya participated in the Teachers' Convening conference, in Taita Taveta County, hosted by Elimu Fanaka Initiative — a non-profit organisation working with rural public primary schools in Kenya to improve access to quality education and create sustainable communities! 🌏 The conference was an opportunity for our teachers to showcase and share tested classroom innovations and their experiences with the Schools2030 Human-Centred Design process with a wider network, enhancing cross-learning with education partners in Kenya! 👏 #TC2024, Aga Khan Foundation East Africa, Halima Shaaban

Info
Schools2030 is a global movement for holistic learning and teacher leadership, led by the Aga Khan Foundation. The movement brings together a diverse coalition which includes educators, school leaders, civil society, researchers, international organisations and government across ten countries and 1,000+ schools. Our goal is to improve quality teaching and holistic learning, and to foster resilient education systems across the world, including for those living in remote regions and those facing multiple forms of marginalisation and crises. We do this through a focus on teacher agency – recognising educators as leaders, innovators and active agents in education reform.

🚶♂️🏞️ How can schools in remote, migratory communities tackle chronic absenteeism? In the remote Ishkoman Valley of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan, teacher Afzal Khan and his team at Government Primary School Tushkin are finding innovative answers. 💡With support from Schools2030 Pakistan, they adopted a holistic, human-centred design approach to transform education for nomadic families. Absenteeism, driven by seasonal migrations and socioeconomic struggles, once left more than half of the students absent daily. But through deep community engagement, empathetic strategies, and data-driven solutions, Afzal and his team have transformed both student and parental engagement at the school. 👏 Read the full story 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecBE8UQh

📊 Our #DataMustSpeak research analyses education data to identify positive deviant schools – schools that outperform others in learning outcomes, despite operating in similar contexts with similar resources. Our new evidence from Zanzibar revealed that positive deviant schools cultivate positive, supportive school climates through: *Better communication and support between students and school staff *More accessible guidance counsellors who use comprehensive approaches to engage students *Teachers encouraging struggling students to participate in lessons, including through direct verbal encouragement and establishing an environment of mutual support among peers *Safe relationships between students, facilitated through involvement in student clubs *More collaborative peer support among teachers, including through the constructive use of teacher committees Discover what else positive deviant schools in Zanzibar are doing to support students’ learning and wellbeing. ⬇️ Thank you to the @Ministry of Education and Vocational Training Zanzibar, Schools2030, Aga Khan Foundation, and UNICEF Tanzania for making this research possible! https://lnkd.in/dd8MAEf7

👏 🇵🇹 Progressing Human-Centred Design (HCD) in Portugal! At Schools2030, we believe in the power of HCD to drive meaningful change in education. As part of our Asses, Innovate, and Showcase model, Schools2030 Portugal, together with their learning partner, the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto, have been working closely with 15 school groups, involving 960 children and young people and 75 educators. 👩🏫 The recent HCD sessions in Portugal shared results from assessing holistic learning across different age groups (5, 10, and 15 years). These insights are key to understanding how well students are developing crucial skills like empathy, problem-solving, positive relationships, and critical thinking. Armed with this data, educators are now better equipped to refine their approaches, ensuring that learning translates into practical life skills that meet the real-world needs of students! 🤩 Fundação Aga Khan, Universidade do Porto
