Zhi Ying from Ubisoft La Forge, China will present Ubisoft's recent research on visibility approximation for game AI at the upcoming China Game Developers Conference (CGDC) during ChinaJoy 2024.
Neural representations, a family of emerging technologies that represent 3D information using neural networks have been applied in many domains, such as novel view synthesis, 3D reconstruction, 3D generation and editing, etc. For the first time, Ubisoft researchers tried to explore them in Game AI. Ying Zhi will present the first method designed to address the computational bottleneck of visibility testing for game AI using a neural representation. This technology may inspire further applications which can improve player’s experience, such as path distance estimation, sound propagation, and so on.
This research was accepted for presentation at the ACM SIGGRAPH Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics and Games 2024 (I3D 2024), and the research paper titled Efficient Visibility Approximation for Game AI using Neural Omnidirectional Distance Fields has been published in an ACM Journal. #AI #AIforGames #UbisoftLaForge
