Our Head of Technical Sales, Magnus Mori, spoke to NucNet Nuclear News Agency about our ongoing work to bring #LEU+ fuel to the market to power the reactors of today and tomorrow. We are already seeing positive momentum in North America and LEU+ can also be used to fuel some advanced reactor designs until high-assay, low-enriched uranium (#HALEU) becomes commercially available. Great to see our long-term customer ČEZ supporting new nuclear so strongly. Congratulations to Rolls-Royce SMR and CEZ on this fantastic achievement. An example of international collaboration that will play a vital role in both decarbonisation and delivering energy security around the world.
Rolls-Royce SMR and ČEZ join forces to bring their global capabilities and know-how to the deployment of Rolls-Royce SMRs. Today’s announcement at Kramářova vila - the official residence of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic - includes a strategic investment by CEZ into Rolls-Royce SMR and a strategic partnership to deploy up to 3GW of electricity in the Czech Republic using Rolls-Royce SMR power plants. The agreement strengthens Rolls-Royce SMR’s ability to deploy SMR technology in Europe and globally and puts CEZ, Rolls-Royce SMR and its existing shareholders - BNF Resources , Constellation, QIA and Rolls-Royce - at the forefront of SMR deployment. Chris Cholerton, CEO of Rolls-Royce SMR, said: “I am proud to welcome CEZ as an equity partner. CEZ’s commitment to build Rolls-Royce SMR units, which will fulfil up to 3GW of electricity, will support its ambition to deliver clean, affordable energy to the people of the Czech Republic. “We have a shared vision and our route to market will be further strengthened by bringing the valuable delivery experience and significant capabilities of CEZ to our market-leading SMR proposition. Our business is set up for success in the UK, the Czech Republic and around the globe.” Daniel Beneš CEO of CEZ Group, said: “This investment enables our commitment to international collaboration in delivering clean power at home and abroad. The Czech Republic hosts some of the world’s leading nuclear supply chain companies. This collaboration in deployment of Rolls-Royce SMR units offers a unique opportunity for growth and prosperity to the nuclear sector through our participation in the development of the technology and will enable CEZ and other local companies to play a significant role in its future global production.” This collaboration, expected to last several decades, represents an important strengthening of ties between the UK and Czech Governments and signals a strong commitment to building an international supply chain, generating an enormous opportunity to develop skills in both countries and deliver significant economic growth. https://lnkd.in/e3JKCMBe

Urenco CEO Boris Schucht joined with senior representatives from across the #nuclear industry last week as part of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Group of Vienna. The Group, which meets regularly, is a platform for dialogue on how best to address current global challenges through the effective and sustainable use of nuclear technologies and by fostering innovation in the nuclear sector. At a pivotal moment for the nuclear sector, the Group is committed to supporting the IAEA in its mission to enhance developments and innovations in the nuclear field, exploring how the private sector might be able to partner with the IAEA to facilitate the deployment of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes.

🌍✨ How does nuclear energy contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Human activity has greatly intensified the impacts of global warming and climate change. The overuse of resources endangers our ability to meet the needs of current and future generations, which is why action is needed now. Nuclear energy plays a critical role in addressing these challenges. Not only is it a low-carbon and reliable power source, but nuclear technologies also have applications that span agriculture, food security, medicine, history preservation, and more! Learn more about how nuclear contributes to the SDGs by visiting the Nuclear for Climate website. 🌐 Explore here: https://lnkd.in/d4T_FHJg ... and stay tuned! 😎🎥 #Nuclear4Climate #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #SDGs #NetZeroNeedsNuclear #SustainableFuture #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #TogetherIsBetter

A Urenco delegation including representatives from our Government Affairs, Business Development, and Market Development & Technical Sales teams attended the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Conference on Small Modular Reactors and their applications this week. The conference represented a focal point for the IAEA’s activities in the field of SMRs and their applications. Urenco joined attendees in discussions on facilitating cooperation and collaboration among Member States and other stakeholders to support the safe and secure deployment of SMRs worldwide. Discussions also focused on advancing the harmonization and standardization of SMR design, construction, regulatory and industrial approaches. The event also included an “Industry Night” which was an opportunity for SMR Developers to present their projects across all development stages in an interactive format. This was a welcome opportunity to engage with developers on their associated fuel cycle approaches. Urenco uses its technical expertise to broadly serve the nuclear industry, including through our ongoing contributions to enable fuel supply security for SMR developers. Indeed, we are dedicated to the advancement of nuclear innovation, and by extension, the prosperity of SMRs. Continued and reliable coordination between industry and governments is required to help jumpstart the AMR/SMR market to ensure it is commercially viable and Urenco will continue to engage at these international forums.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s 2024 Climate Change and Nuclear Power report is out and it is emphasising the urgent need for increased investment to expand #nuclearenergy and achieve #netzero emissions by 2050. The report advocates for policy reform and international partnerships to bridge the financing gap and accelerate nuclear power expansion, including SMRs, especially in emerging markets and developing economies. In its high case scenario, the IAEA projects a 2.5 times increase in nuclear capacity, made possible by a global investment increase up to $125 billion annually, up from the $50 billion invested each year from 2017-2023. Achieving the more ambitious goal of tripling capacity, pledged by over 20 countries at COP28, would require upwards of $150 billion annually. Securing the financing necessary to expand #nuclearenergy capacity is key to achieving the goals of #decarbonisation and #netzero. Read more: https://lnkd.in/enS-igm2

A big well done to our Urenco Isotopes' colleagues who showcased the importance of what we do for medical, industrial and research applications at this conference in Germany. Today, we supply isotopes that support the equivalent of two million patient treatments every year. The demand for these products is increasing and so is the variety of applications in the fields of treatment and diagnostics.
ENRICHING #EANM2024 Three days of interesting conversations. Three days of meeting valuable partners. And three days of enriching visitors of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) conference in Hamburg with our vitamin water. Already looking forward to Barcelona next year!
