Women Are Leading Climate Solutions. Are We Listening? At CSW69, we gathered with activists, funders, and policymakers for an urgent conversation on the gender-conflict-climate nexus, not as an abstract policy issue, but as a lived reality for those defending land, water, and life itself. One thing was clear from the panel: "Women are not just affected by the climate crisis. Women are leading the solutions." Across the world, women and gender-diverse activists are reclaiming land, protecting water, and resisting extractivism and militarization. They are on the frontlines of climate action, not by choice, but by necessity. Yet, they are the ones most criminalized, displaced, and underfunded. The Role of Funders & Policymakers. What Needs to Change? If we’re serious about climate justice, we need to start making real shifts: - Stop funding false climate solutions, divest from fossil fuels and destructive industries. - Fund women-led, grassroots climate movements with long-term, flexible support. No more project-based, short-term funding. - Protect land and water defenders from criminalization, violence, and displacement. - Shift power to those on the frontlines, let them lead. Beyond Policy & Research, Centering Lived Experience. Too often, the gender-conflict-climate nexus is analyzed through academic frameworks that ignore the real, multi-dimensional experiences of those most affected. The research coordinated by GAGGA aims to shift the narrative, centering the voices of women and gender-diverse defenders from the Philippines, Brazil, Mozambique, and Burkina Faso. What it reveals: Gender, conflict, and climate change are not separate crises. They are deeply connected, reinforcing systems of oppression while also fueling radical resistance. --> Read the research and hear their stories: https://bit.ly/3DykTze --> Watch the full session: https://bit.ly/4iE3swe This conversation doesn’t stop here. The women leading climate action don’t need to be “included” in the conversation, they are already shaping the solutions. It’s time for the rest of the world to catch up. #FeministClimateJustice #CSW69 #WomenDefenders #ClimateAction Equality Fund Mama Cash Both ENDS IrishAid Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

GAGGA rallies the collective power of gender, climate and environmental justice movements around the world!
Sobre nosotros
GAGGA, launched in 2016 by the Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres (FCAM), based in Costa Rica, in collaboration with Mama Cash and Both ENDS, both based in the Netherlands, is a vibrant and diverse network involving women’s funds, environmental justice funds, NGOs, and women-led community-based organisations, joining forces to strengthen the nexus of women’s rights, gender, climate, and environmental justice at local, national, and regional levels in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, Europe and globally. We believe that women-led community-based organizations (CBOs) are in the best position to propose solutions and alternatives to the problems they face because they know the local landscape, language, culture and challenges of their constituencies. However, they often face limited access to funding and advocacy spaces. That’s where GAGGA comes in. GAGGA’s network consists of the following actors based in the Global South: - Women-led CBOs - National, regional and global environmental justice and women’s funds - National, regional and global NGOs As with CBOs or grassroots groups, environmental justice and women’s funds emerge from the movements they seek to support. This means they are well-connected to and have an expert understanding of the needs and opportunities of the communities they serve, and are accountable to them. They also provide grassroots groups with the kind of flexible support and multi-year funding they need to be successful. This is why we believe it’s critical to channel resources through these funds. In the GAGGA model, funds and NGOs provide women-led CBOs with technical and legal support, thematic expertise and funding, while further enhancing their connections with gender-just environmental movements. All GAGGA actors work together in a multi-level, cross-movement collaboration to strengthen movements, link and learn from each other, and lobby and advocate, with an emphasis on participatory processes and shared leadership.

On this March 8th, let’s tell the truth. The climate crisis isn’t just about emissions or rising temperatures. It’s about power. It’s about whose land gets taken, whose resources are stripped, and whose lives are destroyed in the process. From the Philippines to Brazil, Mozambique to Burkina Faso, women, girls, and gender-diverse people are leading the fight against climate destruction, corporate greed, and militarization. They are reclaiming land, resisting extractivism, and rebuilding communities. But their work comes at a cost. They are criminalized, displaced, threatened, and too often, killed, while those profiting from stolen resources remain untouched. Today, on March 8th, we honor their fight, not with empty words, but with action. What can you do? - Listen to the women on the frontlines. Their leadership isn’t symbolic, it’s the blueprint for survival. - Support grassroots movements that defend land, water, and communities. Climate justice starts there. - Show up at CSW68 on March 12, where these voices will be heard. Their fight is global. It demands a global response. Women are not victims of the climate crisis. They are leading the way out of it. It’s time the world follows. #FeministClimateJustice #CSW69 #WomenDefenders #March8 #ClimateCrisis

March 12 | 9:30 AM - 11:15 AM EST International Rescue Committee, 122 E 42nd St, 14th floor (12-min walk from the UN HQ) + Virtual Access Where gender justice meets climate justice, there is resistance. And there is power. At this year’s CSW68, we’re not just talking about the climate crisis, we’re talking about the women and gender-diverse leaders confronting it head-on. What happens when the climate crisis collides with extractivism, conflict, and militarization? It’s a story of land stolen, water poisoned, communities displaced. But it’s also a story of resistance, solutions, and power. On March 12, we’re bringing together feminists, funders, and activists to have a conversation that goes beyond the usual climate policy talk. We’ll hear from grassroots leaders from the Philippines, Brazil, Mozambique, and Burkina Faso, who are: - Defending ancestral land against mining & agribusiness giants - Fighting militarization and gendered violence in climate disaster zones - Reclaiming water, food sovereignty, and community survival strategies This isn’t just a discussion. It’s a call to shift power and resources to those already leading feminist climate solutions. Plus: We’ll be launching a powerful new collection of frontline stories. But the real focus? The voices in the physical and virtual room, the connections we’ll make, and the strategies we’ll take forward. Don’t just watch CSW from the sidelines, be part of this conversation! Spread the word.
