Yesterday was an eventful day for YEE. 👀 Our Secretary General, Pegah Moulana, had the pleasure of reconnecting with YEE alumnus, former YEE chairman, Mr. Jan Dusík a true testament to the long-lasting impact of our network and the incredible journeys of those who have been part of our community. Mr Jan Dusík is a fine example of this and we cannot thank him enough for the energy and passion he has dedicated to the youth and environmental causes. We are thrilled to congratulate Jan on his new role as Deputy Director-General of DG CLIMA. This achievement is a remarkable milestone, and we couldn’t be prouder! Here’s to continued success and impact in the fight for a sustainable future. 🌍 #YEE #YouthEmpowerment #EnvironmentalLeadership #Sustainability #DGClima

A step forward for youth participation in climate change 🌍 The Committee of Ministers has adopted its first-ever recommendation to empower youth participation in addressing climate change! This significant move acknowledges the challenges young people face in advocating for a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. On the day when the recommendation was adopted, we asked youth representatives what this recommendation was about and how it can bring change for future generations. Hear from youth! 🌍 Exciting news from our team! 🌱 📢 Last week marked a historic moment for #ClimateAction and #YouthEngagement with the adoption of the first-ever international soft law instrument on young people and climate action—Committee of Ministers’ Recommendation CM/Rec(2024)6! We are incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment shown by our team throughout this journey. This is truly a monumental achievement, and we’re honoured to have played an essential role in the process. Have a closer look at the document to see how it can inspire change and empower the next generation of climate activists! We hope it becomes a powerful tool for the systematic support that young people and climate activists deserve. #YouthEmpowerment #ClimateAction #CouncilOfEurope #YEE
As the rapporteur, I am proud to get the chance to share with you the adopted CM Rec on young people and climate action! First ever recommendation to empower youth in climate action! 💚 I still can vividly remember that 4 years ago, with Katarina Pavlovic we were serving at the Advisory Council on Youth we were rattling our heads on how to engage with Council of Europe member states on youth advocacy on climate action. It was not easy, since it was not clear what should be the mandate/angle of Council of Europe. 🔆 Year by year, we continued to push and the member States started to hear us! We began with focusing on greening the youth sector with the support of EU-CoE Youth Partnership and later the co-management structure of youth department voted to write a soft law instrument, compiling the nexus between climate action to young people. ! 📍 By that time, my mandate had ended, I was selected to join the drafting group as the rapporteur of the document! It was a tense assignment, given that this is the first ever Council of Europe instrument on young people and climate action. 🛡 After 3 years, I am happy to announce to you all that the CM Rec on young people and climate action is finally adopted and I have the pleasure of sharing it with you! I hope this document becomes a tool for systematic change and support that all young people and climate activists deserve. Here is to overcoming climate change together! Here is to the youth! Many thanks to Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) for their trust and nomination!

📢 Last week marked a historic moment for #ClimateAction and #Youth engagement with the adoption of the first international soft law instrument on young people and climate action (Committee of Ministers’ Recommendation CM/Rec(2024)6). This is a Recommendation that has been in the drafting process for two years, and comes after many years of work to put #climate on the agenda of the Council of Europe. Key recommendations to Member States: 🌍 Rights. Protect the rights of young #EnvironmentalDefenders. 📣 Participation: Enable young people to participate in climate decision-making by removing barriers to engagement. 📚 Education: Provide tailored climate resources adaptable to all educational methods. 🏥 Health: Offer youth-friendly health services for those impacted by #ClimateChange. 📊 Information: Ensure young people have full access to climate-related information and data. 🚫 Discrimination: Address all forms of discrimination that young people face related to the #ClimateCrisis and their #activism. 🤝 Needs: Account for the specific needs of young people, particularly marginalized groups, when implementing climate measures. 🏛️ Local Dissemination: This should be translated, shared, and the local and regional authorities should be invited to implement it. This achievement reflects the dedication of Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) and their ongoing commitment to youth advocacy in environmental issues.
