DTM finale: ABT Sportsline says “Thank you, Audi!” A unique era will come to an end at the #DTM finale at the #Hockenheimring this weekend: after 25 years together in the DTM, ABT Sportsline will compete in Germany’s most important racing series with #Audi cars for the last time. From 2025, the company will cooperate with the Italian Audi subsidiary #Lamborghini in the DTM. At Hockenheim, Kelvin van der Linde will be fighting for the title for the second time after 2021. “Our involvement in the DTM was actually born out of necessity,” recalls Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of the ABT Group. After the end of the German Super Touring Car Championship at the end of 1999, we suddenly no longer had a field of activity. The TT concept, with which we applied for the DTM, was created in a cloak-and-dagger operation. We then built three cars in 100 days and raced them for the first time at Hockenheim. This became one of the most successful and longest partnerships in the history of motorsport, which also shaped ABT Sportsline as a company. ABT and Audi have simply belonged together for 25 years. It’s a shame that Audi is not continuing its GT3 commitment.” An Abt-Audi TT-R from the 2000 season will be on display between the team’s trucks in the paddock at Hockenheim as a reminder of the early days. Laurent Aiello sensationally won the 2002 DTM championship with the compact coupé. It was the first of a total of ten DTM titles that ABT Sportsline and Audi celebrated together. 77 victories in 331 races to date, 258 podium finishes, 91 pole positions and 86 fastest laps complete the unique track record that makes ABT Sportsline the most successful active DTM team. ABT Sportsline with Lamborghini in the DTM 2025 ABT Sportsline and Lamborghini Squadra Corse – this partnership has been thrilling spectators at the Nürburgring 24 Hours for two years. Now, #DTM fans can look forward to this strong combination as well: from 2025, ABT Sportsline will also compete in Germany’s most important racing series with factory support from the Italian sports car manufacturer. The plan is to field two #Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars. "ABT Sportsline and Lamborghini are two brands that fit together perfectly", says Thomas Biermaier, CEO of ABT Sportsline. What a special event! Last weekend we had the pleasure of being part of The Sound Of Sportscars, an event organised by Kaffee & Kurven for sportscar enthusiasts. The programme stretched over three days in Austria and offered one highlight after another for the participants. The programme was based at the scalaria on Lake Wolfgang, which is also home to our partner MARIAN BOATS. Lola Yamaha ABT completes debut driver line-up with rookie Zane Maloney joining “Mr. Formula E” Lucas Di Grassi. Lola Yamaha ABT will enter its first ABB FIA Formula E season with one of the grid’s most exciting driver pairings, having confirmed rookie Zane Maloney as the teammate of Lucas Di Grassi. DTM Red Bull Ring: ‘Match point’ for ABT driver Kelvin van der Linde Kelvin van der Linde enjoys playing padel and tennis, which is why the ABT driver is well aware of what a ‘match point’ is. If you apply this to the #DTM, then the German-South African has the first ‘match point’ this weekend: because he is travelling to the Red Bull Ring I Projekt Spielberg with a seven-point lead at the top of the standings, van der Linde could mathematically secure the title early.   In theory, at least. In reality, the season’s probably most difficult DTM weekend awaits the championship leader and his team-mate Ricardo Feller, because the 4.318-kilometre Red Bull Ring in the heart of Styria is a racetrack that traditionally does not suit the #Audi #R8. The circuit is located at an altitude of around 700 metres. Three full-throttle sections with a 65-metre difference in altitude and gradients of up to twelve per cent play into the cards of cars with turbo engines in particular.   Hans-Jürgen Abt says: "The track guarantees action. Unforgotten is 2002, when Laurent Aiello was on course for the title at the start of the last lap before being put through the mill by our friends at Mercedes. Team orders are banned in the DTM today. Compact DTM weekend at the Sachsenring: ABT driver Kelvin van der Linde leading the pack 🏁 In the battle for the #DTM title, ABT Sportsline will have to adjust to a compact schedule next weekend: For the first time since the start of the GT3 era in the DTM, there will only be one free practice session on Friday. The second free practice session, qualifying and the race at the #Sachsenring on Saturday will then be a real rollercoaster ride.   With a victory at the Nürburgring, ABT driver Kelvin van der Linde has reclaimed the lead in the drivers’ standings. ABT driver Kelvin van der Linde regains #DTM lead. Kelvin van der Linde regained the lead in the DTM standings with two outstanding races at the #Nürburgring. On Saturday, the ABT driver secured a superior victory by more than 15 seconds from pole position in the rain. On Sunday he extended his lead in the overall standings with an unexpected fourth place. In the overall DTM standings, Kelvin van der Linde turned a five-point deficit into a seven-point lead at the Nürburgring weekend. His team-mate Ricardo Feller is seventh in the standings after a difficult weekend. In the teams’ championship ABT Sportsline is 19 points behind BMW Team Schubert Motorsport. The exciting and highly competitive 2024 DTM season continues on 7/8 September at the Sachsenring – one of Kelvin van der Linde’s favourite race tracks. Kelvin van der Linde: “What a weekend! Thanks to the whole team for the great support! Saturday’s race was probably my best in the DTM so far. But my team also provided me with a superb car and did a perfect job. I was almost even happier about the result on Sunday, because after the first lap I really thought it was over. But we stayed calm and worked our way back up to fourth.
