On June 28, 2025, a crucial law will come into effect in Germany: the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG). For the first time, it mandates the private sector to ensure #accessibility, implementing the EU Directive 2019/882 (European Accessibility Act). My colleague Mirjam has written a very detailed and well-researched article on this topic. This issue is extremely important and must not be ignored, not just because of potential penalties. Proud Father Moment 3.0: My son Niklas Wows at EuroRust Let me share with you a special moment that happened yesterday. My son, Niklas Korz, spoke at the EuroRust Conference in Vienna, one of the most significant events for Rust developers in #Europe. He shared insights on "Integrating Scripting Languages into #Rust Applications" – a topic at the intersection of technical sophistication and innovative problem-solving. Niklas started working with me on alugha GmbH, a platform dedicated to multilingualism in the digital world, when he was just 15 years old. Those experiences not only provided him with profound technical knowledge but also ignited a lifelong passion for innovation. Without him, millions of people could not enjoy multilingual videos! My immense pride in Niklas's ability to make complex topics like embedding scripting languages such as #Deno into Rust applications understandable and accessible is boundless. His presentation demonstrated how these technologies allow developers and end-users to dynamically adjust the behavior of applications—a revolution in potential! His dedication and enthusiasm for speaking engagements mirror the passion that has always driven me as a speaker. It is truly wonderful to see Niklas flourish in his professional achievements and live out his own enthusiasm for technology and innovation. Keep it up, Niklas! A world without Geoffrey Hinton:? Without him, many of us wouldn’t be where we are today and countless startups wouldn’t exist, and innumerable opportunities wouldn’t have come to life. With great admiration, I learned that Geoffrey Hinton, whose groundbreaking work has significantly shaped the landscape of Artificial Intelligence, received the Nobel Prize yesterday. His recent remarks about the potential risks of AI, including concerns that AI systems could become more intelligent than us and possibly take control, are all the more relevant and urgent. Geoffrey Hinton has left a profound mark, not only through his research but also through his critical reflection on the implications of this technology. This dimension of his work resonates with me personally, as I tackle similar issues in my role on the Federal Commission for AI. His honesty and the courage to publicly highlight the dangers associated with the technologies he helped develop deserve immense respect. The awarding of the Nobel Prize underscores the recognition of his scientific achievements and should remind all of us working in AI to take his warnings seriously. We must proactively implement ethical guidelines and safety mechanisms to ensure that AI is used for the benefit of all. His words are a clear call to action. They urge us to advance AI research while simultaneously ensuring these technologies are guided by comprehensive ethical considerations.
