𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆?⚡🛩️ Fully electric aircraft have the potential to transform 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 by making use of 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀. But how prepared are airports for this shift? And what 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 can help them evolve into 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗯𝘀? 🎯 An 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 with airport representatives from Germany and neighboring countries tackles these questions. It was conducted by Mengying Fu from #BauhausLuftfahrt in collaboration with VÆRIDION, the project lead and application partner of the #BERTL project, which also involves Technische Universität München. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗟? BERTL (Battery Wing for Regional Electric Transport Aircraft) focuses on two key enablers of all-electric Regional Air Mobility (RAM): 🔸Battery energy density – optimizing power storage for feasible flight ranges 🔸Aerodynamic efficiency – ensuring sustainable and effective aircraft performance With the right 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻, 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, all-electric RAM can make a 𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to sustainable aviation. The HYLENA Project (HYdrogen eLectrical Engine Novel Architecture) aims to reduce aviation's climate impact by introducing a novel aircraft engine architecture: a solid oxide fuel cell - gas turbine (SOFC-GT) hybrid.⚡🔥💪 It not only uses the electrical power produced by the fuel cell but also the generated heat to support the gas turbine cycle. This combination leads to higher overall efficiency of the engine (compared to state-of-the-art turboshaft engines). It is also carbon-neutral thanks to the use of hydrogen as fuel. 🤝Project partners are Airbus, Delft University of Technology, DLR Institut für Technische Thermodynamik, Leibniz Universität Hannover - Institute of Thermodynamics, LEPMI laboratory Grenoble and #BauhausLuftfahrt. 🔎 Want to know more? 👉 Check out our website or get in contact with Florian Winter. #ClimateNeutralAviation #BauhausLuftfahrtProjects
