This applies to all areas of the company and its processes.   The Boehringer Ingelheim company restaurant in Biberach has recently received the “GreenCanteen” certification. This award is given to catering businesses which sustainably improve their products and processes. Biberach is the first site in Germany to be certified according to the new and expanded criteria catalog. Every day, over 3,000 sustainable meals are served in Biberach. The company restaurant attaches great importance to using seasonal ingredients from regional suppliers and organic fruit and vegetables.   The menu offers a varied range of vegetarian and vegan options every day. For meat and fish dishes, animal welfare is very important. Furthermore, the restaurant has implemented measures to save energy and resources, including reducing packaging waste and using organic workwear. Mein Name ist Lara und ich freue mich sehr, als neue Werkstudentin den BioPharma Cluster South Germany unterstützen zu können. Ich helfe insbesondere im Bereich Social-Media-Kommunikation und werde unter anderem bei der Content-Erstellung für den LinkedIn-Kanal mitarbeiten. Ich bin 23 Jahre alt und komme aus der Ulmer Umgebung, genauer gesagt aus Heidenheim, habe meinen Lebensmittelpunkt aber bereits vor fünf Jahren nach Neu-Ulm verlegt. Im August dieses Jahres habe ich erfolgreich meinen Bachelor in Wirtschaftspsychologie an der Hochschule Neu-Ulm beendet und beginne jetzt meinen Master in „International Corporate Communication and Media Management“. HBC stands for the careful use of resources, combined with intelligent methods and processes. We dedicate ourselves to this central topic not only in construction and architecture but also in the fields of energy, business administration and biotechnology. At the Faculty of Biotechnology, sustainability is deeply integrated into our mission to innovate in pharmaceutical biotechnology. We are committed to developing eco-friendly bioprocesses for the production of high-quality pharmaceuticals, addressing both environmental challenges and the needs of global healthcare. A key area of our research is the development and optimization of pharmaceutical processes utilizing CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells - a proven, sustainable platform for the production of therapeutic proteins and biologics. Our faculty is pioneering advances in cell culture technology that enhance the efficiency of drug production while reducing resource consumption and waste. By optimizing cell growth conditions and employing green chemistry principles, we are reducing the carbon footprint and environmental impact of pharmaceutical manufacturing. In addition to drug production, we are exploring sustainable biotechnological solutions for the development of biopharmaceuticals, including efforts to produce drugs with minimal environmental burden and promote cleaner, more efficient manufacturing processes. These initiatives align with our broader commitment to circular economy principles and reducing waste throughout the production cycle. Sustainability is also a key focus in our educational programs. We train the next generation of biotechnologists in green bioprocessing techniques and encourage our students to approach pharmaceutical challenges with both innovation and ecological responsibility. So war Rentschler Biopharma an fast 25 % der 2023 von der amerikanischen Zulassungsbehörde FDA (Food and Drug Association) neu zugelassenen Biopharmazeutika beteiligt (https://lnkd.in/eeVWx-9f)   Bei der jüngsten Mitgliederversammlung des BioPharma Cluster South Germany waren wir zu Gast in der Firmenzentrale in Laupheim. Today, with Henryk Badack, Senior Vice President Technical Service and Internal Project Management, who is responsible for the global sustainability initiatives at Vetter Pharma.   “Sustainability is anchored in Vetter’s DNA and corporate philosophy. A strong sustainability strategy is not just good business but reflects our role in the value chain. We embody this strategy through a three-pillar approach encompassing social, economic and ecological sustainability.   We published our first sustainability report in 2022. Here we addressed outcomes related to our adherence to the German Sustainability Code (DNK) and the Sustainability Report Standards (SRS) of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).   In 2023 our EcoVadis ranking rose to platinum status, placing us in the top one percent of companies assessed globally, and we joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to demonstrate our engagement in initiatives to counter climate change. Internally, we established a sustainability management system that monitors and tracks all relevant activities and identifies areas for action. The attitudes and commitment of Vetter’s owner families and management are particularly important, as their support makes these initiatives a priority companywide.   We address sustainability holistically. This includes offerings for our employees and their families such as free access to supplemental health insurance and counseling or mobility options such as bike leasing and free transit tickets for public transportation. Simultaneously, we’ve completed more than 125 efficiency projects in the last decade, saving the energy consumption equivalent of 60,000 family homes. Despite a fourfold increase in our workforce, this demonstrates our commitment to reduce environmental impact and drive sustainable growth.   As a pharmaceutical service provider, we need to adhere to special requirements, resulting in resource-intensive production processes. This means we strive to improve the efficiency of our infrastructure and drive forward technological transformations. 𝐀 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐬 Today's annual conference of our cluster neighbors BioRN Life Science Cluster Rhine-Neckar at the new Heidelberg Congress Centre focused on new therapeutic modalities in personalized medicine. 🎙️ After a video greeting from Heidelberg's mayor Eckart Würzner and welcoming remarks from BioRN cluster chair Gitte Neubauer and managing director Julia Schaft, the conference kicked off with an excellent keynote from Andreas Pahl (Heidelberg Pharma AG) on antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) as a powerhouse for novel cancer therapeutics. 🎯 The day was filled with diverse academic and industrial talks highlighting new therapeutic modalities, mechanisms and targets, always following the famous magic bullet concept (essentially targeted, cell-specific drug delivery and activity) originally developed by Paul Ehrlich in the early 20h century. ☢ After another great keynote from Martina Benesova-Schäfer from DKFZ German Cancer Research Center on next-generation radiotheranostics and the awards for the Young Scientist Pitch Competition, the meeting closed with a final networking session. The gradual transition to a more sustainable, climate-friendly and resource-friendly society is both difficult and inevitable. 🌍  Over the next few weeks, we would like to highlight the areas in which the BioPharma Cluster South Germany members are driving this sustainable transformation forward today with Universität Ulm.    With its research, the Ulm University contributes to a better understanding of the Earth system with its cycles and interactions and thus to a deeper understanding of sustainability. This research can identify solutions for making society as a whole more sustainable. Ulm University is excellently positioned in this area: Work in the life sciences shows how ecosystems deal with climate change, or how exposure to environmental toxins affects biodiversity.    Battery research in the PoLiS Cluster of Excellence, in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Helmholtz Institute Ulm, provides technological approaches for energy storage systems of the future. Together with other institutions, such as the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research, a unique ecosystem in this field has been established at Oberer Eselsberg in Ulm. Work in chemistry on artificial photosynthesis carried out in the Catalight Collaborative Research Centre, could one day reveal more sustainable ways of generating energy.    The second major lever of Ulm University is the education of young people. Every year, hundreds of graduates take their knowledge and skills into professional life. Accordingly, it is important to teach students relevant sustainability skills, as is successfully done in the Sustainable Corporate Management degree programme, for example. This also includes anchoring sustainability in teaching, raising awareness for the subject among all students. High-quality education itself is one of the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations!    Ulm University adopted a sustainability strategy in 2023 and defined ways to act more sustainably.
