The future is made of light: photonics, the scientific and economic use of light, as well as closely linked microelectronics are among the most important key technologies of digitisation. They are central innovation drivers for technological change in mobility, agriculture or medicine and at the same time provide end products in lighting, ophthalmic optics or scientific instrumentation. Berlin Brandenburg has developed into one of the world's most important locations for the industry and offers the best conditions for concentrated research, development and production, not least thanks to the highly developed research landscape, a highly diversified industrial sector and the high degree of networking between the players. Quantum technologies in Berlin should also benefit from these conditions in the future; since the recent amendment of the Optics and Photonics Master Plan, this is a new focus of cluster development.
