Start your own Game of Life on the GateMate FPGA at the electronica trade fair Munich! At our Cologne Chip booth at electronica, you can watch the Game of Life evolve naturally into a periodic pattern or a stable still life, before automatically restarting with a new random pattern. You can also press the big red button at any time to start with a personalised random pattern. The initial pattern depends on the exact moment you press the button, giving you direct influence. New cells appear in green. Cells that either remain unchanged for two generations or oscillate between life and death turn red. Once all cells turn red, the game is over. The 960 cells of the Game of Life are computed in parallel on the GateMate FPGA in a single clock cycle. The GateMate ILA provides developers of gateware for GateMate FPGAs with a useful tool to thoroughly analyze the signals of the design under test in its real working environment. Particularly noteworthy is the low hardware consumption with minimal configuration, allowing the ILA to be implemented even with very limited hardware resources. Efficient implementation and the use of pipelining techniques minimize the critical path of the ILA gateware.
