    Providing sustainable financing solutions

Kenya has one of the most dynamic C&I solar sectors - not only because of innovative financing structures. Let‘s continue to grow such in other African countries! This is something my co-panelist Jenny Fletcher Nambuya C. Imbega and Henrik A. and me have been talking about during our panel discussion at the Intersolar Summit Africa yesterday. DEG is committed to increase our investments in #renewableenergy and offer diverse support together with DEG Impulse Bruh Ayele Terfie Oliver Schoch, CFA Andreas Cremer Hanna Dohrenbusch

CEO bei DEG - More than finance. We shape transformation.

Yesterday DEG said goodbye to someone, who is a true pioneer for women in finance: Manuela Marques.   She joined DEG in 2001, first as an investment manager, then as head of department, and from 2011 she was the first female division head at DEG and thus a role model for many women in and outside our company. And a lot has happened for us since then! I am proud that DEG now has 40 percent female division heads.   I am also proud of that: DEG's award as a “Universal Fair Pay Analyst” that we received a few days ago. I am delighted that our efforts for #Equality and #FairPay have been officially recognized.   Dear Manuela, you have left your mark on DEG! I wish you all the best for the next stage of your life. #teamdeginvest

CEO bei DEG - More than finance. We shape transformation.

Our #CorporateCulture shapes the way we work together, make decisions and design processes on a daily basis. It is the driver of #motivation and essential for the success of our daily work.   Strength, stability, togetherness - these are the values that come to mind when I think of DEG and the people who work here. In order to further strengthen DEG's employees' strong identification with DEG, to make collaboration more flexible and faster and to transform DEG to be able scale our impact, we want to further develop our culture.   I am therefore delighted that so many DEG employees have come to the townhall in DEG's atrium today for the #CulturalJourney initiated by KfW and the subsequent workshops to discuss our culture together and develop it further. Because only together with #teamdeginvest we can shape this cultural change. I'm looking forward to this journey! My bags are packed!

Director of ESG & Sustainability at MNT-Halan

No director. No script. Just raw, real stories of Women fueling me with perseverence & pride. Flashback to 2020: 170 women, 80 interviewed, 60 trained. A 6-week program across three cities. Women arriving with toddlers, eager to grow. Filmed in the heart of their streets, where life doesn’t pause. This is real empowerment. #SDG5 #GenderEquality in motion. This International Women’s Day, I’m giving this project the spotlight it always deserved. A few years into my career shift, from design to business development to ESG. From multinationals to the startup world, living the founding team dream at Raseedy (now Halan Cash - حالا كاش) for driving digital financial inclusion to the masse. Then came #ESG, at MNT-Halan and the exhilarating alphabet soup of frameworks and reports, until I found the real magic: Tasaheel تساهيل and its #Women. Somewhere between #Microfinance, #Impact, and #Sustainability, I found the stories that truly mattered. Today, as I grow into my leadership skin and find my voice, I’m giving this moment the front row it always deserved. Thank you, Mounir Nakhla, for launching the first Women Group Loan product in Egypt back in 2015, an impact that still grows today. To Hoos Sonja, DEG, for believing in this project from the start. Grants like these turn #ESG & #Sustainability in companies, into an investment in people, progress, and real impact. To the women breaking barriers, the companies creating real opportunities, and the men actually championing equality.. Thank you. Keep making space.

🛣️How do we accompany partner companies over the course of a #develoPPP project?   🌱 For us it’s about supporting our partners to implement their projects and achieve impact while responding to the challenges they experience. We do this through progress reviews, in-depth check-ups and face-to-face meetings with our partners in the field - among other things. That’s exactly what our three colleagues Megan Moss, project manager, Miriam Amine, M&E expert, and Stephanie Lutz, reporting specialist, did in February during their visit to ETG, a long-term DEG client, and Parrogate.   🌾 The ETG-Parrogate initiatives are being implemented with support from the develoPPP programme in both Malawi and Zambia. The projects focus on strengthening the supply chains to bolster local food security. The aim is to raise smallholder farmers’ resilience, with a special focus on women and youth, and to diversify the types of crops they grow and sell. Additionally, more than 325 local jobs have been created directly with the companies, including at the newly established facilities for soybean oil production.   #Malawi and #Zambia faced a catastrophic drought in 2024, which led us to work together on a response to these very challenging conditions, in order to ensure the best outcomes. In addition, our colleagues also went to meet the project’s target group: the smallholder farmers. 👩🌾   🤝 “Seeing the impact of our joint efforts firsthand and experiencing the team’s commitment on the ground was very impressive,” remembers Megan Moss. "Witnessing the direct impact of the project on the community was an inspiring experience" adds Stephanie Lutz. And Miriam Amine tells: “The project highlights how important and impactful private sector initiatives can be – even more in the context of shrinking foreign investments and support from development agencies.”   A huge thank you to our partners ETG and Parrogate for their warm welcome and valuable insights. We’re looking forward to the next phase of this exciting journey. 🙌

Just Transition | Development Finance | Climate Change
