World Cleanup Day is on Friday, September 20, and there’s still time to join in. World Cleanup Day aims to activate 5% of the world’s population to affect lasting change in social behavior around waste. Once again, the Design Hotels Impact Team in Berlin has arranged a company cleanup to honor the day. We finish work early, set out to clean the area around our office, then celebrate as a team afterward. Many of our hotels have also planned actions for their teams and guests, cleaning up the beaches, rivers, and city streets that surround them. Have you planned an action for World Cleanup Day? Let us know what you have in store!

Info
Design Hotels GmbH represents and markets a curated selection of 300+ independent hotels in over 60 countries across the globe. More than a collection of hotels, the company is a collection of stories. Since 1993, we’ve been crafting a portfolio that reflects the vision of independent hoteliers—or “Originals”—with a passion for culturally-rooted hospitality and cutting-edge design and architecture. Every single hotel was carefully selected based on a range of criteria to guarantee guests a unique hotel experience at the best rates with every stay. From the pioneering boutique hotels of New York, Paris, and London, to the rising stars of Shanghai, Mexico City, and Nairobi, to remote mountaintops, hidden beaches, and off-the-beaten-path escapes, each independent hotel in our hand-picked collection is a wholly unique creative expression, steeped in the history, culture, and the nature of its environment. Design Hotels™ offers its members insightful travel industry knowledge, from market trend consultancy to international sales representation. The company has its headquarters in Berlin and branches in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Singapore. Interested in working for Design Hotels? We are excited to welcome The Home Hotel Zürich, a member of Design Hotels™, our newest opening in Zurich, Switzerland. Inspired by the Dada movement and the playful spirit of the avant-garde, the hotel is a haven for creatives who come for the culture, the cuisine, and the nightlife of Zurich. Located at the historic site of a significant Dada festival, in the old Sihlpapier paper factory, this hotel isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an art movement reborn. Bradford House, a bold Oklahoma City hotel with a taste for adventure, could only have been made by Sara Kate Little and Jason Little. The couple combined their complementary skill sets—Sara Kate runs an interior design firm and Jason has built a long career in commercial real estate—to build something wholly their own. “I wanted to create an escape," Sara Kate tells us. "We don’t have beaches. We don’t have mountains. It’s based on the idea that the interior itself can be an escape.” We sat down with the Littles to learn all about their unique alchemy. Next month, we’re returning to Copenhagen for TheLobbycph, where we’ll dive into the art of designing for emotion. Our VP, Global Brand Leader, Sarah Doyle, will be speaking alongside artist and interior designer Minnie Kemp, Ruud Belmans, founder and creative director of WeWantMore Studio, and cognitive scientist and co-founder of Kinda Studios, Katherine Templar Lewis. Together, they’ll discuss how neuroaesthetics can cultivate a deeper sense of community and belonging, offering solutions to some of the most pressing challenges faced by the next generation. We hope to see you there!

Seezeitlodge Hotel & Spa on Lake Bostalsee in northeastern Saarland, Germany, aims to bring guests closer to nature through its architecture, cuisine, activities, mindfulness program, and more. “We focus on regionality whenever possible,” the team tells us. “In this way, we support small producers and act as an antithesis to factory farming.” Adding depth to its local approach, the hotel practices food-sharing, donating unused food to associations, food banks, and soup kitchens. For these efforts and more, Seezeitlodge Hotel & Spa has earned Level 4 GreenSign certification. Thank you to Stefanie Herrig and Michelle Heinz for sharing your story with us!
