In recent years, the electricity market has been - and continues to be - characterized by the rapid expansion of #RenewableEnergies. Volatile electricity generation in particular is creating a changed market environment and requires the legal situation for the market to be adapted. As a producer of green energy, we are directly shaping the #EnergyTransformation. ⚡Quo Vadis EEG? The Renewable Energy Sources Act (in German #EEG) has created the basis for the expansion of renewable energies. With around 60% of electricity production in the energy mix, renewable energies are fundamentally changing the market. The once static supply from conventional power plants is becoming more dynamic due to the volatility of green energy. This is increasingly leading to oversupply, for example due to solar radiation at midday. This results in up to 20% of negative price hours per year, which are nevertheless remunerated under certain conditions in accordance with §51 EEG and therefore burden the EEG household account. ⚡Open for discussion: Adjustment proposals from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) 1. Remuneration based on the electricity actually fed into the grid (production-dependent): This alternative largely corresponds to an adapted form of the previous EEG and is based on the contract-for-difference (CfD) model. Here, the remuneration for the electricity fed into the grid is determined by comparing the reference price on the electricity exchange with a predetermined remuneration. The state pays the difference or the plant operator pays it to the state, i.e. the operator receives the same price for every kWh fed into the grid. 2. Remuneration based on the potential possible feed-in (production-independent): This alternative is based on the theoretically possible feed-in and depends on a reference plant that corresponds to a standardized technical status of wind or PV plants, i.e. the operator receives a sum of money each year regardless of his own production. ⚡Encavis’ Position In line with the German Association BDEW Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft e.V., we recommend a CfD-based market volume model for the revision of the EEG. This model continues to be based on the logic of the previous EEG, but replaces the fixed funding period of 20 years with a predetermined funding volume. If negative price hours are no longer remunerated, there is a direct incentive for operators to switch off systems at such times and take advantage of the subsidy at a later date when prices are positive. Wind and PV systems could be managed in a system-friendly manner, while uncertainties about remuneration on the market are avoided. Encavis also recommends that the Fed. Ministry issue targeted tenders for capacity mechanisms in line with production-independent remuneration and test them in a real laboratory. Where do you think the EEG should be heading?

Ivonne Briceño from our Energy Portfolio Management team was at UNEF Spanish Solar Association's #ForoSolar and gained some exciting impressions.
Strategic Business Development | Internationalization Strategy | Renewable Energy | Climate Adaptation
The Spanish solar ecosystem is thriving ☀️, and it was exciting to witness its dynamism firsthand at #ForoSolar in Madrid last week. My takeaways: 🔸The market is experiencing frequent low prices and even negative pricing hours, which necessitates better cash flow management and contract reviews. This volatility is structural and not just a temporary issue. 🔸Combining solar and wind with storage solutions, such as batteries, is crucial for future projects. Hybrid systems can help mitigate the effects of price volatility and improve the overall stability and profitability of renewable energy projects 🔸Curtailment, where excess energy production leads to wasted potential, can be significantly reduced with the implementation of storage solutions. Batteries and other storage technologies are essential to manage energy more effectively and ensure that surplus energy is stored and used when needed 🔸There is a need for clear regulatory frameworks and financial mechanisms to support the development and integration of storage solutions. This includes capacity markets and flexibility mechanisms that can provide the necessary incentives for investment in storage technologies. 🔸The future of the energy market will heavily rely on advanced storage solutions to stabilize prices and manage supply and demand effectively. As storage technologies become more affordable and efficient, their role in the energy market will become increasingly important, supporting the integration of renewable energy sources and enhancing grid stability. It was a great organization UNEF Unión Española Fotovoltaica 🙌 The panels were insightful, with great discussions among the speakers. It was also an excellent opportunity to meet stakeholders in person and look forward to shaping the future of the Spanish market Encavis AG

What a journey, truly! Encavis AG has come a long way. Your story beautifully captures the growth and transformation of the company, Dr. Christoph Husmann. We are very excited about the future🌟
Let me tell you a story. 📖 Once upon a time, on 1 Oct 2014, I joined a #RenewableEnergy company named Capital Stage that would transform into the Encavis AG we know today. Back then, we were a small but dedicated team of 64 employees. We were a pure asset owner of 67 wind and solar parks across Germany, France, Italy, and the UK. Our generation capacity was a 0.4 gigawatts (GW), producing 319 gigawatt hours (GWh) annually. Our market capitalisation stood at €270m, our annual revenue at €78m, and we had a balance sheet total of around €1bn. As the years passed, our team grew, our ambitions expanded, and in 2018 our name changed to #ENCAVIS after merging Capital Stage and Chorus Clean Energy in 2016. By 2024, we have become a European powerhouse in the Renewable Energy sector, with over 400 employees. Today we are an asset owner and manager of 320 wind and solar parks with Asset Management services for third parties and an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) business. Our operations now span 12 European countries, and our generation capacity has increased to an impressive 3.6 gigawatts (GW), with an estimated annual production of around 3,500 gigawatt hours (GWh). Our market capitalisation has soared to €2.75bn, our guided revenue for this year is more than €460m, and we have a balance sheet total of €3.7bn. 💪 But numbers alone don’t tell the full story. Our journey has been one of relentless innovation and transformation. We embraced #digitalisation, integrating #ArtificialIntelligence (AI) into our operations, and ventured into new territories with our own battery storage technology in Hettstedt. These advancements are a testament to our commitment to #sustainability and our vision for the future. Now we stand on the brink of a new time for ENCAVIS. The equity capital market era is coming to an end, and the KKR era in the consortium with Viessmann and ABACON CAPITAL is about to begin. This transition marks a pivotal moment in our journey, filled with new opportunities and challenges. We are ready to embrace this new chapter with enthusiasm and determination. Our fantastic team, both existing and new members, will be the driving force behind mastering new challenges. Together, we will continue to push boundaries, innovate, and lead the way in the Renewable Energy sector. 👏 I am incredibly grateful to all our employees who have made this growth possible. Your dedication and hard work have been the cornerstone of our success. I have learnt so much from all of you! I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our project developers, EPC partners, project financing banks, investors, and all our other business and co-operation partners. We would not be here today without your support and collaboration. 🤝 As we embark on this new chapter, one thing is clear: we are ready for the future. Let’s go! I am looking forward to this new era with excitement and optimism. Together, we will achieve great things!

Ok, the sun's gone in Hamburg, but hey, we've got wind now. 🍂 Here are a few fascinating facts about wind and its power to produce green energy: 🌬️ Inexhaustible energy source: Wind is a renewable energy source created by the sun’s heating of the Earth’s surface. So the sun has its rays in play here too. ☀️ 🌬️ Historical milestones: As early as the 9th century, Persians used windmills for irrigation and grinding grain. 🌬️ Modern wind turbines: The first modern wind turbine was built by James Blyth in Scotland in 1887. 🌬️ Global wind power: Denmark is a leader in wind energy, generating over 50% of its electricity from wind turbines. The country aims to be completely fossil fuel-free by 2050, with wind energy playing a crucial role. To ensure that we always know exactly how the wind market is developing, we regularly take our team to trade fairs and events. This week we pulled up our collars and set sail for WindEnergy Hamburg. We wish you a windy day. #WindEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #Encavis #GreenFuture #Wind
