(English version 🇬🇧) This Wednesday, we had the opportunity to present a poster on the results of the last three years of our digital sleep literacy project at the European Sleep Research Society Congress in Seville. The main goal was to compare levels of sleep knowledge before and after people engaged with the project and understand if the increase in literacy levels influenced changes in the public’s sleep habits. It was interesting to note that: 🛜 91% of the sample (N=502) seek health information online, which reinforces the importance of qualified healthcare professionals being active online and creating digital content. 📚 After following the project, 64% of the sample reported sleep knowledge levels between 4-5 (good/very good knowledge) vs. 12.3% before following the project. 💤 69% of the sample reported having changed one or more sleep hygiene habits after starting to follow the project, and only a quarter reported not having implemented any changes. 🛌 There was a reduction in dissatisfaction with sleep patterns in 47.8% of the sample after they began following the project, which makes us think that people’s lack of knowledge about what constitutes a "normal" sleep pattern might lead to unrealistic expectations, fueling dissatisfaction with what is actually a normal pattern. On the other hand, increased knowledge levels may have motivated behavioral changes that reduced dissatisfaction with sleep patterns. 🥼 34% of the sample were unaware of the existence of sleep consultations before following the project, and 50% of people had already encouraged someone in their circle to seek specialized consultations after following the project. However, of those who attended a consultation, only 9.1% reported having received adequate information on sleep hygiene, and only 6.1% felt well-informed by the doctor about polysomnography. Despite the limitations inherent in the data collection process and the sample characteristics, these findings give us something to think about in terms of the untapped potential in the area of digital content to improve public sleep literacy and prevent sleep disorders through changes in sleep habits and routines. We would like to thank all the supporters of this project and the participants in the survey who allowed us to produce this poster, as well as our colleagues for their visits and support! Gracias #SleepEurope2024! 🇪🇸

I help researchers and pharmaceutical companies achieve convincing real-world-data in clinical trials with our cutting-edge vital and sleep monitoring devices.

What a start to European Sleep Research Society conference, here in Sevilla! Contactless monitoring and Sleepiz AG was already on up on the slides in the very first session of the conference! Thank you for opening the Masterclass on „Wearable sensors and artificial intelligence for sleep medicine and sleep research: a primer for clinicians and biomedical scientists“, Thomas Penzel A very insightful session providing a comprehensive overview on the current status of technologies used for #sleepmonitoring and assessment. Both in a clinical and a consumer setting. We are as excited as the physicians to see how novel technologies are moving into clinical settings. Important takeaway: to drive use and acceptance in clinical settings, not only validation is needed, but platforms need to open up and share their raw data with physicians. As a medical device Sleepiz, is already clinically validated, certified and provides our data to clinicians trough our software. Another important take-away from a great presentation by Merel van Gilst is that there is a huge variability in sleep scorers for PSG. So we need to re-think approaches on validating performance evaluation of technologies with a „semi-optimal“ gold standard. To an exciting conference ahead! #wearable #sensors #sleep #artificialintelligence #DHT #digitalhealthtechnologies #ESRS #SleepEurope2024
