𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Insights from our participation in the UK-DE Fusion Regulation Workshop💡 On Wednesday, our CSO Richard Kembleton represented Gauss Fusion at the "Future of Fusion" workshop hosted by the British Embassy. This event, aimed at fostering collaboration between the UK and Germany, explored critical aspects of the regulation of fusion energy - a key element in the journey towards global energy security and decarbonisation. #FusionEnergy has seen remarkable technical and commercial advances in recent years, with both the public and private sectors making significant progress. As fusion power plants move closer to reality, the importance of effective and clear regulation cannot be overstated. The UK has taken a leading role in introducing the first regulatory framework for fusion energy, advocating a global approach that prioritises safety, transparency and innovation. Such harmonised regulations will not only increase public confidence, but also reduce barriers to international collaboration and commercialisation of fusion technologies. Many thanks to Kate Robinson for the invitation. #FusionPower #FusionWithIntegrity #FusionPowerPlant #SustainableFuture #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy

𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬: 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐛𝐲𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬! In fusion, plasma particles from the reactor walls can enter the plasma core, radiating away power and significantly reducing reactor performance. Managing these impurity particles is a challenge to overcome in a fusion power plant. Even helium produced by fusion reactions behaves much the same way. Pioneering work by Brandon Lee during his Fulbright Fellowship at IPP Greifswald, under the supervision of our Stellarator Physics Lead Samuel Lazerson, has shown that stellarators can be shaped to expel these impurities from the plasma core. 👏 The optimisation techniques used in this work are now being applied to the GIGA device to help ensure steady state power production. 💪 Many thanks also to Brandon’s co-authors Hakan Smith, Craig Beidler and Novimir Pablant for their contributions to fusion research! 👉 Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eqerAjKH #FusionPower #FusionWithIntegrity #FusionPowerPlant #SustainableFuture #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #FusionEnergy

In case you missed it ⬇️ Samuel Lazerson, our Stellarator Physics Lead, recently presented at the 24th Coordinated Working Group Meeting (CWGM) of the Stellarator-Heliotron Technology Collaboration Programme under the auspices of the International Energy Agency. He shared Gauss Fusion's vision for the future, highlighting key objectives such as site selection, technology development and scaling up of the fusion industry to bring fusion energy to the European grid. He also emphasised the need to quantify uncertainties in stellarator performance to reduce power plant costs and highlighted ongoing and future public-private partnerships. 💡 The CWGM brings together scientists from several stellarator-focused institutions to compare results and propose joint ventures. Thanks for having us! #FusionPower #FusionWithIntegrity #FusionPowerPlant #SustainableFuture #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #FusionEnergy

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? 𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫! To make fusion happen, we need 150,000,000 degrees centigrades and two nuclei - deuterium and #tritium. ⚛ The heat separates the nuclei from the electrons, creating an electrically conductive plasma. And: Heat is also required for the fusion of deuterium and tritium. Deuterium is relatively easy to extract from water. Tritium, on the other hand, does not occur naturally on Earth and is therefore produced in a tritium breeding blanket which surrounds the plasma. Neutrons, generated by the fusion reactions in the plasma, react with lithium in the blanket converting it to tritium and heat. The tritium and heat are removed and processed through the cooling cycle - the tritium as fuel and the heat as steam and ultimately electricity. Tritium has been successfully produced in the laboratory, but large-scale and economic production is still an unsolved problem. That's why we at Gauss Fusion are working on the development of a functional breeding and fuel cycle. #FusionPower #FusionWithIntegrity #FusionPowerPlant #SustainableFuture #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #FusionEnergy

Europe's deep tech sector on the rise! 🔝 McKinsey & Company's new study 'European Deep Tech: Opportunities and Discoveries' shows that Europe's deep tech sector is becoming increasingly relevant and attractive. Europe's share of global deep tech funding has risen from 10 per cent in 2019 to an impressive 19 per cent in 2023. In particular, deep tech now accounts for 44 per cent of all technology investment in Europe. Technologies such as #FusionEnergy, green hydrogen, quantum computing and nanorobotics are increasingly attracting venture capital and are more likely to reach unicorn status than traditional tech start-ups. The press release (in German) and the study (in English) can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/eiFw8aZV The authors of the study are mentioned in the comments. ⬇️ #FusionPower #FusionWithIntegrity #FusionPowerPlant #SustainableFuture #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy
