New-age Online Travel Agents: Emerging Trends Despite travel and tourism companies contributing over 10% to the global economy, startups in that industry have received a mere 1% of total funding in the last 15 years. In the landscape of Online Travel Agents (OTAs), Expedia Group, Booking.com and Trip.com have gathered immense scale advantages that are almost impossible to surmount. At GHARAGE we support and fund both OTAs and startups poised to shape the industry’s future and are noticing three main strategies employed by startups to disrupt incumbent OTAs: 💡 Creating proprietary top-of-the-funnel travel demand - think Meituan Dianping and Xiaohongshu 💡 Serving alternative segments or niche demographics, with examples including STAYFOLIO, Seek Sophie, NomadHer and Sotravel 💡 Finding innovative business models via the intersection of travel and other industries. Hopper and GoZayaan are the leading candidates here. Dive into our Medium article for an in-depth analysis of these evolving trends and what they mean for tomorrow’s travel experiences. 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/eCWxpT9j #TravelTech #StartupFunding #Transformation 🚀🌎

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting our GHARAGE Spotlight, exploring the importance of design in business. We investigated different approaches to the design process, uncovering practices to use across various industries. These included how can we use empathy to better understand users and make more informed choices, how we can we use speculative design to help guide us towards a better future, and how to support non-professional designers in easily creating a consistent visual universe. We want to give a special thank you to everyone who joined us in our office space in Hamburg, our speakers, and to our production team for making it possible. 🎤 Moderation: Amanda Mai Khuong-Duc ✏️ Event Production: Larissa Hülsmann 📷 Photography: Yunjung Chuang

Join us on July 9 for our Spotlight exploring how to unlock business impact through design-driven methods. When Steve Jobs rejoined Apple in 1997 – the year they nearly had to file for bankruptcy – he was the one who firmly believed in the power of design. The seeds he sowed remain the cornerstone of Apple's success story even after 28 years. Furthermore, over a ten-year period, design-led companies exceed the S&P by over 200%. Enjoy short sessions from our speakers Burkhard Müller, Alexandra Zenner, and Oliver Zeplin followed by a Q&A moderated by Amanda Mai Khuong-Duc. When: July 09 17:00-19:00 Doors open at 16:30 Where: GHARAGE, Shanghaiallee 9, 20457 Hamburg, 2nd Floor Click here to RVSP https://lnkd.in/gFVuGNVB

Let’s talk about inventory. Many major brands and retailers have vast amounts of slow-moving and obsolete inventory (SLOB) which accumulate to around 5% of their revenue. This creates pressing issues from logistics to high storage expenses. Nike, TJ Maxx, and Intel alone saw their inventories balloon by close to $30B within 4 years (2019-2023) due to changing consumer demands and supply chain backlogs. Read our thoughts on Medium to discover how are companies liquidating this sudden build-up of inventory: https://bit.ly/3UQmDcP If you're a startup working in this space, get in touch with Kianchong Lim or Darren Soh.
