The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg supports quantum technologies with its quantum technology initiative Hamburg Quantum Innovation Capital (hqic). Hqic is established as an interbranch contact for science, industry and society. It coordinates and establishes a vivid quantum technology ecosystem in the metropolian region of Hamburg. Hqic is powered by Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg (ARIC) e.V., in close cooperation with the Ministry for economy and innovation (Behörde für Wirtschaft und Innovation), the Ministry for science, research, equality and districts (Behörde für Wissenschaft, Forschung, Gleichstellung und Bezirke) and the state chancellary (Senatskanzlei).

🗯 There is currently a lot of talk in Germany about airport efficiency and costs. ✏ And indeed, many processes at airports are still carried out manually. It is not uncommon for aircraft to be assigned gates manually using Word or Excel lists. 📈 It should be clear that this is more efficient, but even sophisticated computers eventually reach their performance limits with so many possible variations. This is why the Universität Hamburg and Lufthansa Industry Solutions are researching quantum-based solutions. Eviden is particularly strong in the areas of advanced computing, security, AI, cloud and digital platforms Schäfter + Kirchhoff GmbH und Kirchhoff - A super innovative traditional company from Hamburg with a large product portfolio that equips companies and research institutions worldwide with quality products. Noisy Labs is a Hamburg-based company that is a leader in the field of quantum optics. The products are based on over 20 years of academic and development experience. eleQtron GmbH, based in Sigen and Hamburg, builds quantum computers with the aim of making computing power available to companies, institutions and science. 🔝 The second highlight in our eyes was the presentation of the individual country initiatives such as BERLIN QUANTUM, #QuantumBW QVLS | Quantum Valley Lower Saxony, Munich Quantum Valley & EIN Quantum NRW. 🔢 The number of the week today comes from the south of Germany and is 1.60 dollars. That's how much a second of computing power costs in IBM's new data center. 🖥 Near Stuttgart, IBM has inaugurated its first large quantum computer data center. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Dario Gil from IBM officially opened the center. 👩🏭 In addition to research institutions such as Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Volkswagen, Bosch and Eon will also be accessing the computing power of the center to carry out their first simulations in the world of quantum computing. ⚛ It is good to see that the computing capacities are continuing to grow throughout the country, allowing more and more applications to be tested. The commercial application of quantum computers plays a crucial role in the success of this technology. 🚀 We are pleased that there are more and more innovative companies in Hamburg and elsewhere that are relying on quantum computers for their first commercial use cases. #deeptech #quantumcomputing

🛳 Hamburg is famous for its harbor, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the Michel and of course for the legendary “Reeperbahn” in the district of Sankt Pauli - a street in one of the biggest nightlife districts in the world. 2️⃣ But what few people know: Hamburg has two “Reeperbahnen”! 👩🏭 In Eimsbüttel at Schäfter & Kirchoff is the second one. But why is this inconspicuous table called “Reeperbahn” by the employees of this innovative, long-established company, which supplies over 300 universities and many companies worldwide with components for quantum computers? ⚓ Long before the Reeperbahn in Sankt Pauli was a nightlife and red light district, it was the place where ropes and cables for shipping were made by so-called “Reepschlägern”. 💡 Nothing else happens on the long table at Schäfter + Kirchhoff GmbH - only with much finer material than back then. The employees of Schäfter and Kirchoff manufacture fiber patch cables made from optical fibers here. They are used for guiding laser beams in its mere micrometer size core. ⚛ The fiber cables from Schäfter and Kirchoff are used in quantum computers all over the world. It therefore makes makes perfect sense that the table is called Reeperbahn, because the traditional work today is merely more refined and fulfills a different purpose, but it is still an an important craft and part of an important industry in Hamburg.

⚽ Soccer fans in Germany like to chant “Berlin, Berlin wir fahren nach Berlin”, but the reason for our trip to Berlin was not a soccer match but the AI & Quantum Summit at the prestigious Kosmos in Berlin. We were there again this year as a media partner of the Bitkom Events and were delighted that so many exciting formats on quantum technologies are now taking place. Around 1700 people met in Berlin this year to discuss the latest developments in the quantum and AI sector. 💿 In the opening speech, Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Affairs Dr. Volker Wissing spoke about the importance of digitally available data and the good starting position of Germany, as the population is very open to technologies such as AI. 🤝 This was followed by various presentations and workshops. Between the event rooms were various representatives from the quantum and AI fields. We were delighted to see familiar and unfamiliar faces such as our colleagues from BERLIN QUANTUM, the DLR Quantencomputing-Initiative and the Fraunhofer CML and NXP Semiconductors. 🍦 Thanks also to Adobe for the delicious ice cream. 📸 Of course, we didn't miss the opportunity to take a classic tourist photo at Alexanderplatz at the end of the day. #quantumsummit24 #event #quantumtechnologies
