Leading in applied AI by combining unique research questions, data and expertise with democratized access to new tools.
Info
We are a research-driven hub for applied AI that aims to enable the efficient and agile development and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) assets across the whole Helmholtz Association, Germany’s largest research organisation. Helmholtz AI (which is short for Helmholtz Artificial Intelligence Cooperation unit) is structured as a hub-and-spoke model with six units across the Helmholtz Association. Our headquarter is hosted by the Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU) and we have local units at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG), Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Representing the six research fields of the Helmholtz Association, our units host Research Groups and consultant teams. They are at the heart of our activities and ensure wide dissemination of methods as well as broad uptake of data-based research questions in applied AI. Launched in March 2019 and led by Professor Fabian Theis (Helmholtz Zentrum München), our ambition is to tackle the major challenges and pressing issues facing society and develop sustainable solutions for tomorrow and beyond with newly developed AI/ML-based tools, offering democratized access to them in an open and dynamic community.

Collaborative Workshop Highlight 🚀! This week, our colleagues were thrilled to join Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V.'s Earth Observation Center for a workshop to discuss joint projects and future directions. The goal? To explore the links between land cover, air pollution, noise, heat, and health using cohort studies, satellite imagery, and AI, all while ensuring FAIR data. We were proudly represented by Prof. Annette Peters, Dr. Alexandra Schneider, Dr. Kathrin Wolf, Nikolaos (Nikos) Nikolaou, and Dr. Marco Dallavalle. We’re excited to continue building on our joint Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC)- and Helmholtz AI-funded projects, including METAMAP³ and Noise2NAKOᴬᴵ, and look forward to future collaborations! A big thank you to DLR for hosting us! ✨ 👉 Read more about METAMAP³: https://lnkd.in/dQQxE-vF 👉 Learn more about Noise2NAKOᴬᴵ: https://lnkd.in/dntgHrmC #Epidemiology #AirPollution #ClimateHealth #AI #FAIRData #Collaboration #HealthResearch Helmholtz Munich

I am returning again and again to compression these days (in python & julia). We have massive amounts of data that we required for AI training at Helmholtz AI and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) after all. One important library in this remains Blosc2 and the growing ecosystem around it! I am happy to provide a testimonial for the team and the ecosystem: https://lnkd.in/ey2JW8ED Francesc Alted ironArray SLU
