Mobility World Congress #TMWC2024 ▶ Physical attendees will receive a TMWC2024 visitor pass, with the option to upgrade to full congress access at a 25% discount! Automated vehicles (AVs) are considered one of the major technological developments in the automotive industry, able to enhance future mobility, by improving safety, environmental impact, and accessibility. The ability to engage in non-driving tasks is considered by consumers one of the key reasons for AVs adoption leading to the requirement of higher comfort. However, AVs motion is expected to provoke motion sickness (MS) especially when users take their eyes off the road. These challenges need to be overcome before AVs become part of our daily life. Volkswagen Group Innovation and Delft University of Technology are inviting fellows from academia and industry to participate in this workshop. The event is in parallel and in close proximity to the Tomorrow Mobility World Congress (#TMWC) (https://lnkd.in/dz7qbfAH). The workshop aims to align research and development on motion comfort in automated driving focusing on: • Experimental evaluation and detection of perceived comfort, including motion sickness, • Theories and models predicting comfort, • Mitigation strategies to enhance comfort and user acceptance in AVs. This event is supported by Hi-Drive and EIT Urban Mobility. Hi-Drive will push automated driving further towards High Automation. Hi-Drive addresses a number of key challenges which are currently hindering the progress of developments in vehicle automation. Our ambition is to considerably extend the operational design domain (ODD) from the present situation, which frequently demands interventions from the human driver. The removal of fragmentation in the ODD is expected to give rise to a gradual transition from a conditional operation towards higher levels of automated driving. The Hi-Drive project focuses on testing, demonstrating and evaluating robust high automation functions in large sets of traffic environments on motorways, in cities and cross-border scenarios, with a specific attention to demanding, error-prone conditions. Objectives are: _ Create, harmonise and manage a Europe-wide testing and demonstration environment for high automation. _ Define and implement Technology Enablers technologies, targeting defragmentation and extension of the ODDs for different automated driving functions and traffic contexts. _ Implement, adapt and further develop an already proven common testing methodology across all test sites for high-automation. _ Test and demonstrate the functionality of high automation vehicles in demanding traffic scenarios across Europe. _ Investigate user reactions, interactions, understanding and attitudes towards high-level automation. _ Evaluate the project’s impacts ranging from single-user behaviour to a societal level. Hi-Drive works towards the DEFRAGMENTATION OF THE ODD! For more information and contact, please visit our website: hi-drive.eu.

We are thrilled to announce the release of our latest project video, titled “Creating a Robust European ADAS User Training Programme.” Filmed at the ADAC Testzentrum Mobilität in Penzing, Bavaria/Germany, on 21-22 March 2024, this workshop, led by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Region I, marks the start of an exciting public ADAS training initiative. In the rapidly advancing field of #automotive #technology, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (#ADAS) are set to transform driving safety and efficiency. Yet, the true potential of these innovations hinges on how well users understand their capabilities and limitations. That’s where comprehensive #user #training #programmes become essential. This two-day event brought together participants from Hi-Drive, 11 European Mobility Clubs*, behavioural and psychology experts, the European Commission, and #OEMs like BMW, VW, Ford, and Honda. Together, they engaged in hands-on experiences and expert-led workshops to develop a comprehensive curriculum for European drivers, covering ADAS technologies from SAE International Levels 1 to 3. Watch the video to see how attendees interacted with already available features such as adaptive cruise control (#ACC), automatic emergency braking (#AEB), and lane-keeping assist (#LKA), both on the ADAC testing track and public roads. This collaborative effort aims to enhance user awareness, foster safety, and generate excitement for future developments in automated driving. Automated driving will only become a reality when users comprehend these systems and integrate them into their driving habits!
