At LANXESS, we are committed to conserving resources and protecting the climate by leveraging material cycles for both raw materials for LFP cathodes and spent LFP batteries. For instance, we utilize iron scrap in the production of iron oxides and iron phosphate for LFP production. We are also exploring innovative recycling concepts for large quantities of old LFP batteries. In collaboration with our partners, we are part of a project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWiK) aimed at recycling LFP cathode materials. Our chemical processes are designed to recover valuable elements such as lithium, iron, and phosphorus from the black mass produced during battery recycling. LANXESS' backward integration in phosphorus and iron chemicals is a significant advantage, allowing us to seamlessly incorporate recyclates into our existing production processes.
