Enabling Massive Integration of PV into Buildings and Infrastructure. Meeting European climate targets demands a dramatic surge in renewable energy adoption. Although photovoltaic (PV) systems costs have decreased, integrated photovoltaic (IPV) remains a niche market due to persistent barriers. The EU-funded MASS-IPV project brings together key players from the construction and PV sectors to demonstrate how innovative tools and technologies can pave the way for the mass deployment of cost-effective IPV systems in buildings and infrastructure. The MASS-IPV project serves as a scaled representation of the IPV market landscape in Europe. The consortium comprises a diverse range of enterprises, from manufacturers and system providers to planning offices and software developers. Together, they address various challenges in the industry such as financial, regulatory, societal, environmental and technical issues. The project aims to guide EU companies in expanding their business in PV-related technologies and services. MASS-IPV has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under grant agreement 101135299. We’re excited to share a timelapse video of the installation of the solar facades at De Haan Group. This project showcases how solar panels can seamlessly blend energy generation with beautiful design. At De Haan Group, we are especially proud of these new solar facades, which are mounted on existing sandwich panel facades. These sandwich panels were not originally designed to support the weight of solar panels, but thanks to our innovative solution, this is now possible. Why consider a solar facade? 1) Generate more sustainable energy where it’s consumed – making optimal use of available space on facades. 2) Recover renovation costs through energy output – the facade not only upgrades the building but also pays for itself. 3) More energy when it's most needed – solar facades produce more power during critical times (morning, evening, and colder months). The facades continues to perform great, providing both sustainability and aesthetic appeal. A big thank you to all the partners involved in making this innovative project a reality! 📢 IEA PVPS is pleased to announce the release of the Task 15 journal article, "Digitalising BIPV Energy Simulation: A Cross-Tool Investigation." This study evaluates eight simulation tools for Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) energy simulation, using a real-world installation in Zhuhai, China. The research underscores the importance of integrating BIPV into building designs to reduce environmental impact and enhance renewable energy use. Norwegian vertical PV system provider Over Easy Solar deployed a 248.4 kW installation on Norway’s national football stadium. The system features over 1,200 vertical photovoltaic panels developed by Over Easy Solar itself. The world’s largest rooftop vertical bifacial solar installation in the world to date has been installed on the Norwegian national football stadium. The 284.4 kW system features 1,242 vertical photovoltaic units of 200 Wp each supplied by Over Easy Solar, a Norway-based vertical solar system specialist. Over Easy Solar’s XM-2 Quattro-200S vertical panels feature silicon heterojunction cells and a module architecture that reportedly offers a bifaciality of 95.7%.
