We translate research on bioengineering, imaging and sensing into medical solutions. @HelmholtzMunich @TUM
Info
MunichImaging is the official channel of the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) at Helmholtz Munich and the Chair of Biological Imaging (CBI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Head and director is Prof. Vasilis Ntziachristos. MunichImaging is the cornerstone of a rapidly expanding bioengineering ecosystem in the Munich science area; including the Research Center TranslaTUM and the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus, which integrate bioengineering with oncology and metabolic disorders, respectively. Our scientists develop next-generation imaging and sensing solutions to measure previously inaccessible properties of living systems, catalyzing breakthroughs in biology, medicine, and the environment. Comprising 11 interdisciplinary laboratories and scientists from more than 25 countries, we offer state-of-the-art infrastructure for innovative research and a perfect environment to accelerate your career. Our research aims to shift the paradigm of biological discovery and healthcare impact and address the major health challenges of our time by developing the medical solutions of tomorrow. We have pioneered multi-spectral #optoacoustic tomography (MSOT) from scratch to successful commercialization and are now actively driving the clinical translation of optoacoustic and optical technologies towards disease prevention, early diagnosis and intra-operative settings. In addition, we develop advanced #fluorescence imaging methods for pre-clinical and clinical imaging, leading to the first clinical translation of a targeted fluorescent agent for optical molecular imaging of patients in 2011.

🌍🥗 In our Science Lunch series, we present cutting-edge research topics of Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft / Helmholtz Association to the Berlin-based science attachés of international embassies. Today's topic was biomedical engineering: By combining biomedical expertise with technological innovation, biomedical engineering creates efficient solutions for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. 🔬👩🏽🔬 We had the pleasure of welcoming Svenja Caspers of Forschungszentrum Jülich and Vasilis Ntziachristos of Helmholtz Munich as guest speakers, highlighting examples from their respective research and discussing cross-cutting topics such as health care policies and science communication with our audience. 👏🏼 Thanks to all of our embassy colleagues for attending and also to Katja Susann Grossmann for doing a great job at moderating the session! 💡 Find out more about the #Helmholtz #biomedicalengineering initiative and our interdisciplinary projects here 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/ewFJy-TH

How can #photoswitching help to deliver unprecedented #resolution in #optoacoustic #imaging? Read the review by MunichImaging scientists André C. Stiel and Vasilis Ntziachristos. In Nature Portfolio Nature methods https://lnkd.in/dSf2Fahe #Switch2See European Research Council (ERC)
Controlling the Sound of Light - Applications Beyond Microscopy 📝A new review from researchers at #HelmholtzMunich, Technische Universität München, and Universität Regensburg on Photoswitching #Optoacoustic Imaging. 💡Optoacoustic Imaging, already transforming biological research, now benefits from advances in #photoswitching technologies, boosting contrast & detection sensitivity. These innovations are paving the way for deeper tissue insights and clearer understanding of complex biological processes and expanding applications in fields like #cancer research, #neuroscience, and #RegenerativeMedicine. 🗨 “The integration of advanced optoacoustic labels and novel switching technologies will help researchers push the boundaries of optical imaging, allowing them to study biological processes at depths and resolutions previously unattainable. These advancements will bring a “new sound” to biological optoacoustic imaging.” Prof. André C. There are many interesting things to learn from our booth neighbors Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) at #TIF2024 German Pavilion in the fields of #mobility, #energy or #ethics in #digitalhealth and it is also a great pleasure to connect and interact with you! KIT Vice President for Transfer and International Affairs Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirt was engaging in the discussion forum on how the collaboration of KIT and researchers from Thessaloniki Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) will make an impact in the future in the frame of the new #THESSINTEC research infrastructure. And it was great to have MunichImaging director Vasilis Ntziachristos taking part as well, representing Helmholtz Munich and demonstrating our will to contribute with our #healthcare expertise. Also the Vice Chancellor of Germany, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck and Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Cem Özdemir visited the booth of KIT. We are looking forward to further interactions with KIT at TIF2024 and beyond!
