🔎 Is there enough #UndergroundStorage capacity for the CO₂ we capture? One of the most effective ways to store CO₂ is underground injection into deep geological formations like saline aquifers and depleted oil and gas fields. This method mirrors nature—just as oil and gas have been trapped beneath the Earth’s surface for millions of years, CO₂ can be securely stored in the same way. 💡 But do we have enough storage space? In short: yes. Europe alone has an estimated 300 gigatons of underground storage capacity—enough to hold nearly 7.5 times the world’s annual CO₂ emissions. The North Sea region is a major hub, with storage projects underway in Norway, the UK, and the Netherlands. ⚡ The real challenge? Scaling up. While storage capacity isn’t the bottleneck, deploying storage infrastructure fast enough is. Right now, only 40 million tons of CO₂ are stored globally each year. To meet net-zero goals, that number must grow to 5–10 gigatons per year by 2050—requiring massive investments in infrastructure, regulation, and public support. At NeoCarbon, we are committed to accelerating this transition by making #DirectAirCapture cheaper, less energy-intensive, and faster to deploy. 👉 But capturing CO₂ alone isn't enough.
