Calling all photographers and storytellers: our annual photostory contest is back! 📸 ✨ Why should you take part? Our sponsors have helped us make this year's prizes bigger and better, as well as giving participants more chances to win. · Global prizes: 10,000€ including a grand prize of 5000€! · Regional prizes: If your photostory takes place in South Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, or Europe, you may also be entered into our regional contest. 💧 What is this about? The theme of the contest is ‘Water Towers’. This is to reflect the theme of the 2024/25 UN World Water Development Report. The contest invites photographers to shed light on the critical issue of disappearing glaciers, celebrate the diverse ways water is stored, and redefine the concept of ‘water towers.’ 🌱 What type of things are we looking for? The sky's the limit when it comes to creativity! Here are some ideas to get you started: · Document the impacts of climate change from source-to-sea. · Showcase natural and built water storage in changing landscapes. · Explore innovative water management solutions and the new metaphorical 'water towers'. Please note that submissions will be judged on writing, originality, theme, and photo quality. 📸 How can you take part? To participate, please submit your photostory entries through one of the following: Picter platform (https://lnkd.in/ddPfXpN3), OR this Google form (https://lnkd.in/dMbuqaP9). The deadline for the contest is 8th December 2024. Winners will be announced in January 2025. We look forward to seeing your photostories! 👉 For more information, contact contest@onewater.blue or check out https://lnkd.in/duAetzzT 💙 A big thank you to UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme, MPB, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Inter-American Development Bank and the City of Burghausen for helping this project come to life.

Despite alarming claims of its disappearance, Lake Chad continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience. Figures from the Lake Chad Basin Commission show periods of resurgence, particularly after heavy rains in 2022, which brought its volume close to levels seen in the 1960s. Spanning four countries and supporting countless species, the lake has seen its water levels fluctuate but recent data indicates a promising recovery. Indeed, this defies and challenges the persistent narrative driven by geopolitical interests seeking international aid. If anything, the case of Lake Chad underscores the crucial need for informed, data-driven approaches to environmental management. 👉 For more information, read the full article in 6 languages: https://lnkd.in/d5PjrQpe Jena Laske | Jason Butsch | Yuliya Vystavna | Issa Bitang | PATIENCE IZIEGBE | Lake Chad Basin Commission | Khadijah Jimeh | Banseka Hycinth | Atiku A. Since 1961, the world has lost more than 9 trillion tons of glacier ice. To put this into perspective, it's enough to fill over 3.6 million Olympic-sized swimming pools! Glaciers are often referred to as "nature's water towers" because they store frozen water and release it gradually, ensuring a steady supply for rivers and lakes year-round. As these natural reservoirs recede, the stability of water supplies for billions of people is at risk. Our current Walk of Water – Water Towers photostory contest focuses on the role that natural and man-made water towers have on our society and environment. Join us in documenting and celebrating these critical structures as they face increasing challenges in a warming world. The winner will receive 5 000€. Deadline is 8th December, 2024. Winners will be announced in January 2025.
