India has witnessed unprecedented heatwaves, floods, landslides in the last 3 months. Our Gender Champion partner Udaipur Urja Initiatives Producer Co. Ltd. communities are doing all they can in their power to resist and be resilient towards the impact of such rapidly occurring climate impacts. Yet when we talk to carbon investors and corporates, we see all they want to do is to save a few dollars for their carbon credit purchase. Very little thought goes behind investing in communities, people and women, as long as they can purchase cheaper credits and make some profitable transaction. When PowerSouth co founders Tasneem B and Diya Deb get asked what is their business model, they often reply " we dont have business models, we have a purpose" . We need more purpose driven initiatives and not profit driven ones to save ourselves and the planet. PowerSouth is delighted to have wonderful champions like Soumyajit Auddy, Vasudha Saraogi and several others in this journey along with the communities . Watch this space for more detailed stories on what communities are doing and what we should prioritise, as responsible societies. #climateresilience #carbonmarket #gender

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH recently invited Tasneem B and Diya Deb from PowerSouth to a very enriching event for the South Asia diaspora in Bonn, featuring panel discussions and experience sharing. Tasneem shared her own journey and the journey of PowerSouth in the panel discussion titled"South Asian Women in Diaspora" which highlighted inspiring stories of resilience and success from South Asian women. Drawing parallels between women in the grassroots, back home in India and the women diaspora in a foreign land, both trying to carve their space out . Diya, shared with the audience the heartwarming moments of PowerSouth in dialogues with women from the villages in India. The highlight of the day-long event was the deep and authentic connections that were created between the diaspora from Nepal, India, Afghanistan and others. More power to Diaspora2030 to create such remarkable opportunities that bring together voices that matter. #DiasporaEngament #GenderEmpowerment. Praveen Kumar

🌳 When carbon project developers working on the ground try to portray gender empowerment, they often publish pictures of smiling women. For example, mentioning somewhere in their report that the women were happy to get cookstoves because it helped save time. 🧐 But have you ever wondered what did they do with the saved time? Did they end up spending more time on their domestic chores? Is that empowerment? Did their decision making power improve? 👥 Well, for once we were delighted to come across Soumyajit Auddy, the CEO of Rajasthan, India based Udaipur Urja Initiatives Producer Co. Ltd.and his fabulous team Srinithi Sripelly and Jyoti Kumari who embarked on a journey with PowerSouth to map and unearth the real stories of gender empowerment, the nuances, that goes unnoticed. 🌸 #Climatechange and #gender are intrinsically linked. Here is our 🎥conversation with Sheela - a centre coordinator on how clean cookstoves and #environment and #livelihoods go hand in hand. Keep watching this space to hear directly from the women from these remote villages. Kudos to Udaipur Urja Initiatives Producer Co. Ltd. Know them through the eyes of our amazing gender champions working relentlessly in Rajasthan on a Gold Standard project. Tasneem B, Diya Deb and Vasudha Saraogi.

Here are some visuals and takeaways from our second interaction with women monitors in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This time around it was Kotda. 👣 👣 1. #Empowerment Through Employment: Women monitors have developed self-confidence and a sense of pride by earning independently and contributing to their households income. Interaction with others and outsiders has broadened their perspectives and enhanced their decision-making abilities. 🔥🪵 2. #Health Benefits: The introduction of cookstoves has significantly reduced the time spent on cooking, and improved health by minimizing smoke exposure. 📚👩🏽💻3. #Education and #Aspirations: There is a strong desire among women to educate their children and break the cycle of poverty, despite challenges such as distant schools and unsafe routes, they remain committed to this goal. During our fieldwork, we have seen the incredible impact of community engagement and the potential for holistic sustainable development. We are dedicated to continuing our support for these strong communities. Keep an eye out for the stories and complete narratives we have gathered, highlighting the grassroots impact. Please note the women are smiling when they #also #do #not #cook. With Vasudha Saraogi, Diya Deb, Tasneem B Srinithi Sripelly Jyoti Kumari Soumyajit Auddy Udaipur Urja Initiatives Producer Co. ❓❓❓ What do local women need/want #sdg5 besides #cooking? How have #local #cleancookstoves #carbon projects benefitted them? is it only #time saved? or #income earned? or do they feel #socially empowered? 📸 🎤 Some snapshots from our #focusgroupdiscussion with the women monitors of one project site at Udaipur Urja Initiatives Producer Co. Ltd. 🌳 ☀ The project does not list #SDG5 as a co-benefit but this is what we discovered in our initial interactions with the women monitors and we are loving every niche under the #genderlens Coming up is another #focusgroupdiscussion at another project location and a women monitor survey in three locations. Thanks to Soumyajit Auddy Jyoti Kumari Srinithi Sripelly and Vasudha Saraogi for taking this journey with us - Tasneem B and Diya Deb

📣To all those in 'Founding'💪🏽 and #Impact👣 mode: PowerSouth has been lucky to be a part of MovingWorlds TRANSFORM Support Hub https://lnkd.in/epJfnt7q. Due thanks to a very proactive approach by Alam Bains and SAP's Leonie Dietterle - the latter who I met at the AsiaBerlin forum (big small world!). Through this platform we have benefited from EY's Chris Fogg who has been a wonderful sparring partner! It is very simple - an online portal where you can connect with skills based volunteers from big companies like SAP and EY, new corporate sales opportunities, and even courses and templates related to internal operations. All you have to do is apply here: https://lnkd.in/ej5aSxyP - it takes about 10 minutes. Do spread the word to those who you know may benefit!
