RiDERgy
Erneuerbare Energie & Umwelt
Efficient electrification and charging of fleets = energy transition success.
Info
At RiDERgy we play a crucial role to move the world towards a circular economy. We do this by helping to electrify and charge fleets efficiently. We charge and discharge vehicle batteries to solve the volatility of renewable energies thereby requiring less extra stationary storage. RiDERgy develops software powered by the best algorithms to produce optimal charging schedules. This more efficient solution enables faster adoption of electric mobility and a successful energy transition. Our aim is to serve any type of vehicle from commercial trucks to passenger vehicles globally. We offer lower charging costs to commercial vehicles at company sites. These drive much and need low total costs of ownership. We can interconnect with partners such as charging solution providers, automakers and electricity retailers. We operate from Europe but have global ambitions and think globally from Day 1. We received support from EnBW, Baloise Group, Fit4Start of Luxinnovation, Humboldt University China Tech Bridge, BIA via the Berlin Senate and European Social Fund, EIT Urban Mobility and Unternehmertum.

Yesterday, we had a great event co-hosted alongside the German Energy Agency (dena) and the Future Energy Lab. We had a mix of founders, industry veterans, and students, which allowed for broad and informative discussions! 🚀 Energy Flexibility: The Missing Piece in the Energy Transition? We explored the evolving role of energy flexibility in achieving emission targets, tackling regulatory hurdles, and unlocking business opportunities. The discussion spanned multiple perspectives—from C&I financing and thermal storage to V2G innovation and the future of heating flexibility. We had 4 different roundtables headed by organizations working in flexibility. Many thanks to: Eoin Keane and David Dunnett of H.E.A.T. 🎛️ Lou Kest of Berlin Innovation Agency (BIA) 🚀 Martin Bornholdt of Kelvin Green GmbH 🔥 🔹 Key Takeaways: - Business models for flexibility: Revenue potential for EV flexibility is growing, but industry stakeholders must align incentives—especially in areas like bidirectional charging. - Regulatory frameworks matter: Dynamic pricing, incentives for automakers, and evolving grid policies will shape the market. - Beyond lithium-ion batteries: Thermal storage and district heating are underutilized flexibility assets with significant potential. Interesting insights from Kelvin Green GmbH! - Innovative business models: Companies like Octopus Energy are pioneering new approaches—like offering EV leasing with free electricity in exchange for smart charging. - The timing is right: With 56% renewables in the electricity grid, grid flexibility is no longer optional—it's a necessity. - Flexibility is key to an affordable and resilient energy system. What are your thoughts on how we can scale these solutions? Drop your insights in the comments! Thanks to everyone for attending, and a special thanks to the organizers! 🇪🇺 ⚡ Is Europe’s energy system flexible enough to handle the rapid surge in renewables and its electrification? Forecasts show that the EU could reach 66% renewable power by 2030. Europe’s cumulative renewable capacity is set to grow by 78% (from 2023 to 2030)—jumping from 894 GW to nearly 1,600 GW! 70% of this expansion is concentrated in just seven countries, with Germany at the forefront, followed by the UK, Italy, Türkiye, France, Spain, and the Netherlands. 💡 What does this massive ramp-up mean for our energy system? Flexibility—in industrial load shifting, e-mobility, battery storage, and heat applications—has never been more critical. That’s why RiDERgy, in partnership with dena Future Energy Lab, is bringing you the Future Energy Lab Community Night on March 6 in Berlin. We’ll dive into how cutting-edge flexibility models are reshaping the energy landscape, with a special focus on Germany’s role as a key innovator and market driver. 📘 What’s in store? - Thought-provoking perspectives from Claudio Geyken (RiDERgy) - Collaborative breakouts exploring industrial flexibility, e-mobility, battery storage, and heat applications - Networking opportunities with startups, industry experts, VCs, research institutions, and policymakers 📍 Where? As AI and Software transform the energy landscape, much funding will be required to upgrade every market participants. Funding innovation and creating ecosystems is crucial for that. Thanks Bitkom and Get Started by Bitkom for giving us the chance to connect with the EIC Board meeting Yesterday.
10B EUR for an innovative Europe but is it enough? ... This is the amount the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) invests in startups—nearly 10% of the Horizon Europe (R&D funding of the European Union. These days, we see companies struggling due a.o. to a lack of competitiveness. Insolvencies are increasing. The way out is supporting and adopting innovation and a stronger Europe! Yesterday I had the chance to pitch RiDERgy in front of very friendly and competent EIC board members (e.g. President Michiel Scheffer 🟥, Stéphane Ouaki 🇺🇦🇪🇺, Francesco Profumo, Teresa Neves, Dr. Claudia Keil-Dieckmann, Patrik Sobocki (MSc, PhD), Anita Krohn and EIC supported startups (Philip Tigges). Interesting facts I learned: - 4M European "brains" go to North America, and 1M North American like Ryan Guterman come to Europe. We need to make the situation for brains more attractive in Europe! - The Novel Food regulation needs to be revisted as it impedes new food innovations which we urgently need to combat the climate crisis, environmental pollution and animal welfare. - 20,000 companies apply to the EIC each year and only few percent get accepted. We need ways to support innovation more broadly. We are also thankful for getting EU support via EIT Urban Mobility and EIT Global Outreach. I personally am also thankful for having studied and worked with EIT InnoEnergy and worked with many great colleagues like Mikel Lasa, Christian Mueller, Frank Gielen and Elena Bou for a more innovative Europe! Thanks chariteberlin for hosting us! Do you have suggestions on how Europe should foster innovation?

Electric Mobility stagnates in Germany and we will stay with fossil fuels! Nothing further from the truth especially thanks to the last-mile logistics heroes leading the way! This is despite many challenges in switching to EVs, like securing charging locations and power and working with low margins. Last-mile delivery companies are finding solutions, as practical problem-solving is in their DNA. For those delivering packages to you every day, EV fleet share is growing fast! E.g. DPD will go from an EV share of 3.5% to 15% by the end of this year and to 85% in the next 5 (as will DHL with the even much larger fleet)! This is what most research yielded. StreetScooter GmbH, thanks to Achim Kampker's leadership was the inception of e-vans in Germany but now there are plenty of models in the market with much more range than initial models that had less than 100km. The infographic is an overview of the EV-share of the largest last-mile companies with roughly 100,000 vehicles. We’re not sure about the share of FedEx, Amazon, UPS. Maybe these companies want to comment on their situation in Germany. Additionally; The first dozen E-Trucks are joining the e-fleet, I’m also very curious to see how fast the uptick will be. Hopefully even faster than vans! Another question that is on my mind: How does Germany compare internationally in the last-mile sector? Do you have facts and thoughts on this? I’m sure after reading this, once you get a package delivered or you’re in the city, you will also notice more and more electric vans. Kudos to the industry leaders below!
