BEYOND THE COOKIE BANNER: FAIRES DESIGN UND VERBRAUCHER:INNENSCHUTZ +++ Online-Veranstaltung+++ Manipulative Designs im Netz, oft als Dark Patterns bekannt, sind längst Alltag – von undurchsichtigen Abo-Fallen bis hin zu irreführenden Interfaces, die das Löschen eines Accounts zur Herausforderung machen. What is feminist digital policy? Listen to the new 🎤 Purple Code episode, where our guest Elisa Lindinger asks: How can we bring our own narratives and define our own playing field in digital policymaking? For Elisa, digital policy must be framed as social policy. As the co-founder of SUPERRR Lab alongside Julia Kloiber, Elisa is a key player in shaping the feminist digital policy agenda in Berlin and beyond. She developes methods for addressing digital rights in a world of massive inequalities, researches technologies, builds networks, and shapes feminist perspectives. Trained as an archaeologist, she studied machine learning for archaeological data, became a tech enthusiast and tinkerer, and is now an advocate for equitable digital futures. The podcast "Purple Code. Intersectional feminist perspectives on digital societies" is hosted by Dr. Sana Ahmad, Lena Ulbricht & myself. In an era of overpowering Big Tech, nothing is more powerful than workers uniting and fighting back. At the first International Solidarity Meetup, data workers from Kenya and Germany came together in Nairobi to demand fair conditions. On a cool afternoon in Nairobi, under a tent at the NGO Siasa Place, data workers from Kenya and Germany shared experiences, discussed working conditions, and built strategies for change. Despite different labour laws, they face the same struggles: low wages, strict NDAs, little recognition, ... What unites them most? Their unfair working conditions have turned them into labour rights activists. They are pioneers doing groundbreaking work. At the meetup, they drafted eight demands for fair working conditions, including: 📢 The right to freedom of assembly and speech for all workers ✊ Tech companies must not obstruct employees' efforts to unionize Read their eight demands and help spread the word! https://lnkd.in/gavVdeMv With 16 million data workers worldwide, the potential for global organizing is huge. Thanks to the worker's courage and persistence, real change is coming. We at SUPERRR are proud to stand with this incredible community that has taught us so much. There is so much going on in the world right now – and one of the few interventions that still makes so much sense to me is holding space. Bringing people together, creating space where people can build connections and bridges, and forge and imagine futures together. That's part of the motivation behind this new job position we have SUPERRR Lab: we're hiring for a Community and Events Manager, to build our community work intentionally and creatively, thinking about how to nurture and grow communities we've been part of, how we can contribute to other communities, and so much more. https://lnkd.in/ekhTcADW We're also hiring for an Operations and People Manager – someone to oversee all things 'operations' and also design and implement intersectional feminist people-focused policies. (I know, harder than it sounds, but maybe you're up for the challenge?) https://lnkd.in/eTcjqw8v Further info - including salary ranges, how to apply, and more, is in the links. Both positions are based here in Berlin, and a good knowledge of German is required for both. #hiring #jobs #berlinjobs #jobfairy

What role should we allow artificial intelligence to play in our societies? My new interview with digital.global touched on many questions discussed at the Paris AI Summit – here are my favorite points: Q: How do we SUPERRR Lab shape a “feminist, digital future”? A: Only together with other movements. Shaping futures is about collaboration and solidarity. Q: How do we best face the dangers technology poses to our societies? A: By not humanizing it: It's companies and people that profit off of technologies, and they need to be held accountable to the harm their products do. Tech or AI are not forces of nature. Q: Why do women statistically use "AI" less often? A: Sounds like rational behavior to me! Joke aside: Women are still more likely to work in part-time, precarious conditions in which it is difficult to build confidence and experience in using these tools, and understand their powers and limitations. At the same time, AI tools don't deliver on the efficiency gains they promise. Let's not push AI for AI's sake, let's discuss how we actually want to use it. Q: How do we avoid or prevent discrimination by AI systems? A: To be honest, I don't think we can rule it out as long as people perpetuate discriminatory behavior. If AI systems are trained on historical data, our task is clear: We need to eradicate (if possible) discrimination in our societies. Only then can we, through data, serve responsibly as a teacher to decision-making systems.
𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻—𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲! 🤖 How can we make sure artificial intelligence (#AI) contributes to a more just and inclusive digital future? Elisa Lindinger, co-founder of SUPERRR Lab, is on a mission to rethink technology through a feminist lens, challenging power imbalances, advocating for accountability, and ensuring AI serves society as a whole. 🚀 In our interview, she shares her insights on #GenderEquality in tech, the risks of bias in algorithms, and why collaboration is key. NEW PUBLICATIONS: During the past year, Konnektiv, SUPERRR Lab and Green Web Foundation collaborated with the Umweltbundesamt - German Environment Agency to produce additional research and support with concept development for CODES. The project's aim was to examine what is currently happening at the intersection of digitalization and sustainability on a global governance level, to discuss how debates can be centered around a just transformation for people and planet and what possible implementation pathways could be taken with new partners internationally and in Germany. We are pleased to publish these findings: 1. Policy Paper: Towards a Just and Sustainable Digital Transformation for People and the Planet: https://lnkd.in/eJycHy2u 2. Implementation Pathways Towards a Just and Sustainable Digital Transformation for People and the Planet: https://lnkd.in/e4bQgSdz 3. Contributions to a Framework Approach for Sustainable Digital Infrastructures: https://lnkd.in/e_qrVahz 4. German Impulses for a Fair and Sustainable Digital Transformation: https://lnkd.in/eG_TfzYg These publications provide a valuable contribution to the current discourse and resources for other stakeholders. We look forward to continuing debates and further developing the ideas put forth in these papers!
