Madagascar is a country rich on biodiversity and Symrise is active there for many years. Being backward integrated in finest natural raw materials is a key success factor for the company. Symrise CEO Jean-Yves PARISOT visits this fascinating country for the first time and is currently on a field trip and scent expedition together with the local management team. Symrise works with 7,000 Vanilla farmers and operates its own farms where for example patchouli, vetiver, bay leave, pepper and cinnamon are cultivated under highest sustainable standards to achieve regenerative agriculture and provides social benefits to improve standards of living. More than 30,000 people benefit from it. Symrise will continue to expand its activities in a win-win situation for all stakeholders involved. Symrise continues its strong profitable growth course in the first nine months of the year, achieving organic sales growth of 11.1%. Both segments contributed to the positive development. Considering portfolio and exchange rate effects, Group revenue rose to €3,824 million in the first nine months (9M 2023: €3,610 million), a plus of 5.9% compared to the year-ago period. Both segments contributed to the positive development and increased sales in a global economic environment that remained challenging. This month, meet master flavorist Emmanuelle Bonnemaison. The mission of a flavorist includes developing flavors that fulfill customers and consumers requirements. By organizing tasting sessions, evaluating new flavors and collaborating with other departments, Emmanuelle and her team can finetune the vanilla profiles to create unique solutions answering evolving market needs. After traveling to Madagascar, the heart of global vanilla production, she looks at vanilla very differently. “I know that behind all this, there are farmers growing the vanilla, pollinating the flowers, harvesting and selling the beans. This causes a special and very powerful feeling about vanilla," says Emmanuelle.
