Can Teledriving & L4 Autonomy work in harmony? Industry experts came together for an insightful talk at The Autonomous main event. “To achieve a scalable business, regulatory certainty is essential for commercial growth. We found this certainty in Las Vegas, Nevada, enabling us to scale successfully", said Vay Co-Founder and CTO Fabrizio Ugo Scelsi. “Over the past six years, we've made significant progress in Germany and Europe [...], we are in continuous discussions and are confident that there will be regulatory certainty soon”, he continued. Thank you to The Autonomous main event for hosting insightful conversations on regulation and scaling challenges and bringing together industry leaders. #Teledriving #AutonomousVehicles #Vay #FutureOfMobility
It was a pleasure to join the panel at The Autonomous main event last week in Vienna with KBA president and Chairman of UNECE, Richard Damm, Stefan Oexl, VP of Engineering Torc Robotics and Dr. Janett Fahrenholz, LL.M. Head of Product Compliance and Regulatory Law at Volkswagen, led by Dr. Benedikt Wolfers, M.A., Partner, POSSER SPIETH WOLFERS & PARTNERS . We discussed the regulatory landscape for autonomous vehicles and how teledriving/remote driving can complement autonomous vehicle technology: - With our commercial service in Las Vegas operating our fleet of teledriven passenger vehicles we have shown that it is possible today - from technical and regulatory point of view. - Vay can provide L4-like customer experience (no one inside the car) in very complex urban environments already today, while having the trained human (the teledriver) in-the-loop performing the driving task. - Having a human in the loop can increase trust for new technologies - a recent survey from McKinsey (link in the comments) also highlights that more respondents prefer remote driving over autonomous driving. - The advantages of both, the trained human driver and the AV technology, can be combined to increase the operational design domain (for example automation on highway and remote driving in urban environment), increase safety, and enable new types of (mobility) services starting today - in the B2C and B2B segment. - Regulatory clarity in Europe is critical to deploy the remote driving technology at larger scale commercially. We are happy to see the support and progress being made in Germany and Europe and are committed to continue the discussions in order to roll out the services in Europe soon. Thank you for hosting such a high quality event with very insightful presentations and the gathering of global experts from the industry Ricky Hudi, Philip Schreiner, Eloïse Morel, Iulia Juchert (Baidac).
